Do you ever have that song that you can’t listen to because it hurts to even remember the person that you associate the song to?

If yes, then what is it and what’s the story behind it?
Smokey Robinson “just to see her”. It was released a few months after my gf broke up with me and it reflected my feelings at the time. I kissed her so much. It was painful to hear but yet kind of an exquisite pain I didn’t run away from. Thing is, decades later, I hear that song and smile—recalling how much I cared for her.

Music is something that I love. Some songs immediately transport me to a time and a place and a person in memory. Even if I cry, I still listen to and sing with the song. Music is life.

No but I have songs that I had to avoid for a time because it hurt a lot.

I know that I am over the person because I CAN listen to them now like my first love and me traded music a lot

True by Spandeu ballet, we used to slow dance in her room to it (adorable I know).
It actually took me years to actuallymove on, I truly loved her. We're still friends now 8 years later though.
Menetics · 26-30, F
@Ryannnnnn That’s true love. True love is selfless but there's always this little hope we have that they’ll realise we’re the one for them. I rather detach myself from someone who brought me misery. I don't want to bring any baggage into my next relationship. He deserves my full attention and loyalty. You can never love someone fully if you haven't let the other go.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@Menetics You're exactly right. Even now I still have little thoughts, I think it's more that I miss love and connection itself at this point though, it wouldn't work between us anymore, our lives are different.

I hope you find that someone, you seem like a good egg
Menetics · 26-30, F
@Ryannnnnn Thank you! I hope you find someone that’s right for you ☺️
you know thinking about it all my ex was terrible at communicating though.
like she'd put a ultimatum on me already to open the relationship up or she'd leave successfully until things didn't work for me and dumb ole me decided to close things again in anger

but what you know like the thing that brought us together drove us apart and she didn't think to tell me to quit or she'd leave??
Menetics · 26-30, F
@BetweenKittensandRiots Honest communication is the key to every successful relationship. Instead of acting like a toddler because we expect our partner to be psychic and automatically know how we should feel, we should be vulnerable to them and tell them what’s bothering us.
@Menetics Well you know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if I'd fixed it and made it more attentive to her needs and avoided getting dumped I wouldn't have the partner I do now which frankly I love a lot more intensely.

Yes. Wheels. It was my 3 years long distance girlfriend's favorite Foo Fighters song. She ghosted me in 2019 after 3 years of us talking and getting to know each other, having so much in common, etc. The song reminds me of her :'( .

"Should have known better" by Sufjan Stevens.
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJJT00wqlOo]

It is the song a person showed me along with their soul. Just as the song does, I was told about a dark oppressing past that seemed to take your future away from you. I was entrusted with their truth, but I betrayed it.
Menetics · 26-30, F
@FlowerAlchemist Betrayed it how?
FlowerAlchemist · 22-25, T
@Menetics That person was without soul, lost, deprived of meaning. And they desperately sought it. So I showed them my world, I showed them hope in the shape of my dreams. They slowly recovered from past wounds. Yet a point came where contradictions filled their head. My dreams, my thoughts, had intruded there. They were good while that person was getting out of darkness, but later they became the source of inner conflict. I had unknowingly limited that person's freedom.
