Do you believe men and women can be best friends?

SW-User Best Comment
Absolutely and my best friend is a woman and she knows me probaly better than i know myself.

We did get initmate once due to over indulgence in alcohol but it felt awkward afterwards and we both agreed we are better as friends than having a relationship. Its never gotten between us and we carry on as if it never happened.

@SW-User I knew this could happen.

@SW-User Thanks for BA

A best friend is a much more valuable thing to have than a lover. Friendship is priceless, love is worthless.
@BlueMetalChick real talk

@BlueMetalChick interesting. Maybe it’s because I’m old.

Maybe your opinion sounds crazy to younger folks.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User It could be. My views are rather extreme.

I KNOW men and women can be friends. My wife is my best - and perhaps my only true - friend!

@Quakertrucker Why would you do such a great disservice to yourself as to marry your best friend. You've tainted your friendship by adding love to it.

@BlueMetalChick
I appreciate your thoughts but I do not believe that I have tainted my friendship with my wife; I believe I have exalted it!

My wife is of Celtic heritage (Cornish to be exact) and we were married on the Winter Solstice. Three days from now will be our 19th anniversary.

I love her with all of my heart, and each day I love her more - so I can only conclude than my heart is growing larger every day. Obviously, I mean this in a spiritual rather than physical way. She tells me every day that she feels the same way about me.

Best wishes to you.

It should be her husband/boyfriend who does this.
If a man finds a woman seductive it is going to get to be more than friendship or it will end in heartache.
Men and women can be pals and friends, but best friends between the two sexes rarely works out unless one of them is gay or they are not attracted to one another which can change the more time you spend together as best friends are apt to do.
I think your spouse or girlfriend could be your best friend if both people took the time to invest in the relationship.
SW-User
@SW-User what if you are unlucky in the spouse/partner department?
I think it depends on your maturity level & how many romantic comedies you watched growing up.
SW-User
@DarlingSelah a lot of our mindset has been shaped by entertainment.

I used to think this is possible because for a long long time my best friend was a guy. All it took was one moment of weakness, one kiss and that was the end.
WildHeart · 41-45, F
@SW-User He kissed me but I reciprocated. For him this was a sign that we could be more than friends and I just couldn't do it. Nowadays we don't even talk :(
SW-User
Bummer.
yes, this happened to me too, if hes a good freind don't cross the line,
it changes everything@WildHeart

I don't see why not. If you mean this as opposed to lovers, I don't see why lovers can't be best friends too.
Classified · M
@BlueMetalChick I disagree.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Classified Love is just greed mixed with desperation. It's impossible to feel loving without having some sort of fault within yourself causing it, like emotional neediness, or low self esteem.
Classified · M
@BlueMetalChick I've been in love (cause I think that's what you mean when you say to word love) and I've made selfless choices. Love is much more than just the feeling. Love can even be without feeling.
I know they can. One of my very best friends is a man. And we have never been and will never be anything other than friends. His wife is also my friend, and I’m godmother to their middle child.
I wish I could believe it, it hasn't happened to me since I was 5

@SW-User Then you're an insecure self hating sack of shit and you deny possibly the most important part of the human experience.
SW-User
@BlueMetalChick Heh. You are projecting your own shitty sappy baggage onto me. Not worth my time. I’ll pass.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User I'm not the one with the baggage. You just said "I don't believe in friendship, period." That's an enormous red flag for "I've been badly hurt in the past and now I have trust issues." So no, you won't pass.
SW-User
I very much think it’s possible.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
Absolutely.
