Why is thin generally considered more attractive then fat?

Nat15 · F
Mostly it's healthier to be thinner rather than fatter.

Of course too thin isn't healthy and sometimes a few extra pounds looks REALLY good! ;)

But mostly thinner is healthier and we are programmed to want the healthiest mates! :)

@Glassysky We seem to have moved from fat to healthy without defining what fat means. If you mean healthy then absolutely I agree with you. I’m not talking about a 400lb person. But it seems odd to say that people like someone slim nowadays because it’s good for creating kids.

@SemlohR I personally prefer woman who is average, but nowadays, fat does mean obesity, due to cheap fast food.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@SemlohR I mean, you're right - we don't have definitions. And the "fat meant wealth, social stability, etc" times people also weren't "fat" by modern standards - and remember gluttony is a deadly sin when you think about social acceptance of fat people in the past.

Modern lifestyle blew all of this out of the water and reconfigured our metrics.

This dude is fat, sure. But in this day and age, nobody is going to put him in a circus because we see people like that every day.

As for cutoffs, I think that if your doctor says you should lose weight, you qualify. That's usually starts at a much lower number than most people realize, by the way.

It actually varies quite a bit from culture to culture.
I'm not sure how much truth there is to this, but in poorer times people tend to favour thicker women because I guess our brains take that as a sign that they have better access to food or are "richer". I forget what was said about thinner women in wealthier times, sorry. 😅

And then there's the whole thing with the media and such pushing the "ideal" body as being someone that is thin. I'm not totally sure where that began.

@AmbivalentFriability Thicker, yes. Obese, no.

I think most of us live in America, where "fat" isn't just a thicker body build, and morbid obesity is common.
Glassysky · 22-25, M
@QuixoticSoul Fast food which is cheap and unaffordable, and poisons you.

Generally because people who are fat are less healthy.

Seems we have a subconscious tendency to be attracted to things that will help with procreation. So big, wide hips increased the chancd of the baby surviving before modern medicine... big tits ment a fed baby... a fit partner... Maybe ment she could get the baby and run the fuck away faster ... but who knows.
