Do you have recurring dreams and do you notice pattern variations within them

I wonder how much of dream content is recurring, like a pallet of watercolors and the mind dips from a bit of this, a bit of that. Or is it the framework that is recurring, not the elements, probably both.

I imagine that to notice the patterns of recurrence, one would need a good deal of dream recollection after waking. That would only stand to reason. I had a recurring dream today.

I was on an old college campus. A neglected theater, with books piled up in towering heaps. I lament their neglect and so I wish take a few, but there are students who randomly enter and exit and I do not wish to be caught trespassing and stealing.

Two variations this time: there are Star Wars collectibles up on the stage and my old friend Psycho Frank is with me. I attempt to quietly exit the building, but Frank is running his yap and the students notice and chase us. There are 3 of them, yelling Harry Potter type spells at us to try and make us stop, after a few minutes of this cacophony, I confront them and demand they leave us be, but they continue to pursue. We lose them in the labyrinthine confines of a cemetery with tall grave markers and grandiose mausoleums. The cemetery is also a variation.

We flee across a bridge to a small island and attempt to hide in an old firehouse which has been converted into a museum, but are discovered and flee again, which is standard for this dream, but this time one of the curators gives me a file folder with a distinct red page sticking out and says that the administrator wants to see me. I refuse to take the folder, flee again.

I am looking around for a way to get back to my car, notice jagged rocks with strong, blasting tidal currents, as usual for this dream.

Normally the dream ends at this point, but I wrap a plastic bag around my leg and affect a limp and am able to get past security stationed to watch the bridge. I hear him speak into his walkie, "Two men, late 30's to early 40's, but one in a leg cast. Alright. Let them through."

Dream ends there.

Hmmm...I have recurring dreams sometimes. Most of the time they are like any normal dreams, It's the theme that's reaccuring-ie whatever I'm currently worried about. Or something my brain picked oit as odd or bothered by and then it makes up a story about it. Most of the time I can easily figure out what my dreams mean :D

I did once have a really strange reaccurring dream (2-3 times a week for several weeks) many many years ago. From what I can accurately remember, I dreamt that I woke up in a bed in a stone room that was lined with empty shelves and had a chimney. I also remember the room would go from pitch black to having sunshine seem to pierce through the stone ceiling. In my dream I was simultaneously obsessed and completely creeped out by the shelves. Their emptiness really bothered me, and I'd wake up still wondering why the shelves were empty. The dreams stopped after I exhausted other escape plans and figured out\settled on climbing out of the room.

I do have recurring dreams often. If there is any variation, it would just end up adding details enough to make the dream a little longer or even more understandable. Occasionally, a dream will come back to me in one of my seizures. Of course, it will just be a smaller portion of it, as my seizures are very small and short, but I do recognize the setting and a person or two within. Some of those dreams are from my childhood, and have remained with me since because of the seizures that have continued throughout my life.

@silentwriter180 Hey. :) Thank you for the gift you sent me. *hugs* That sounds awful. I often feel like my writing inspiration is a form of seizure. It comes over me powerfully, there is a strong physical as well as emotional response and the words pour not from me, but through me, with the overall message emerging only when it is complete.

I completely understand how you feel. As I can feel that way when I am writing as well. There are times when I am writing so long and hard that I will have a what I call a trigger, and have to stop writing otherwise a seizure will hit.

Your writing is very powerful. I can see and feel it in your words when I read your stories. I encourage you to continue. I have been a writer for many years, and there are stories that I am afraid to share due to the intensity and the fear within those words. I am one who continues to watch for your stories. Know that I am here. :-) xo

One recurring dream that I have had at least 4 times,I have to cross a dense forest to get back to my home but I always leave it too late so I would be caught in the dark as I crossed the forest,so I have to stay where I am till morning. It is always the same forest.
berangere · 80-89, F
@DanielChristensen Yes I feel very threatened I do not want to be caught in the night inside that forest.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@berangere That is the literal translation of the word bewildered

@DanielChristensen I am usually pretty good at understanding the meaning of dreams, but not this one.

I thought I had recurring dreams until I started to keep a dream journal. There are only recurring situations - hiding from a storm, walking outside without shoes, burning and smouldering cables under the carpet, overflowing toilet... The place is always different though.

@CrazyMusicLover That's interesting, thank you. Especially burning and smoldering cables under the carpet. Sounds like worries about things going wrong, perhaps financial insecurity? I worry about that a lot

This is some detail..I barely ever remember my dreams and have never had a recurring one (that I remember!) I wish I could.
SW-User
@DanielChristensen did you ever get it dream read? Maybe there’s something you could do in life to solve the reason for the dream
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@SW-User I have been given many unofficial interpretations, studied it myself on occasion, and much of what people determine is reasonable and insightful, but who knows what the content of a dream truly means. The mind is a mysterious demesne

@DanielChristensen ah..well in that case avoid cheese before bedtime. That should do it
