Scotland Has Made All Period Products Free

In other news. I'm moving to Scotland!
dale74 · M
The only problem with that is government has never been known to make a product that is of any quality. Once people realize that government is fitting the bill they don't care about quality comfort or anything else because someone else is paying the bill. You can get free food in lots of places but does it really food that you want to eat.
I want to visit Scotland, my grandmothers home
what about incontinent pads
Dshhh · M
we should do the same with condoms
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
But it'll be England that has paid for them
use a mooncup... less waste and saves tons of money

@Strawberrry girl i’m too scared to put that shit up there
@UnderLockDown Understandable, although not all women have the same challenges.
@UnderLockDown And they don’t work for all women.
sassypants · 36-40, F
They will never do that here in the United States. Our leaders can never agree on anything.
Soph03 · 18-21, F
@chrisCA what do you mean?
FrancescaB · 22-25, F
@chrisCA they will have a period nose when I'm done with them
chrisCA · M
@Soph03 If men had periods, or could get pregnant, I am sure that it would influence many governments, on issues such as this, as well as birth control, abortion, and child care, since most politicians are men.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
You mean: government and therefore taxpayers are paying for it all

Meaning in the end it’ll be split between men and women and the total cost will be higher because of the administrative overhead associated with the taxes and enforcement?

@bijouxbroussard If men had periods, I am sure it would be a different story.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@chrisCA Not really, no. Men buy all sorts of household products -- sanitary or otherwise -- at similar rates to women and the government still considers them to reside firmly in the domain of the free market.

Amazing news and one all men and women should feel passion about!

This is estimated to cost around £8.7 million a year, or £3.50 a year per tax payer. Well worth the money in my opinion.
@DownTheStreet you dont really know how economics work rigth or how this system is gonna work right ? you just talkign out of your "taxes are bad" ass....
SW-User
@DownTheStreet I would imagine the estimated costs include administration costs. This has been in place in schools and universities for a couple of years already.
FrancescaB · 22-25, F
@SW-User @Strawberrry @DownTheStreet often we have necessary expenses to bare if it will help in the long run. This is a major step for equality!

That's amazing! What a cool move

Tax free, or just free?

How do they send out the free stuff?

*starts arguing that condoms should be considered period products, as without them, there can be a major effect on the period*
@Viper they are avaibale for those who need them basically. basic brands you can pick up for free... most women will still buy their favorite product.
Viper · M
@Strawberrry Yeah but pick up from where?

If a store isn't making money off of something, then they don't normally stock it...

So do they have to order them from the government? Go to the government? Or is there something that will force the store to stock something they're not making money off of?

I'm just unclear how the money cycle of who pays for the transportation and stock space if it's free.
A wonderful way for Scotland to demonstrate that it values its girls and women.
