Why do Americans write the date back to front?

2019/09/04 instead of 04/09/2019.
bowman81 · M
The quick answer is we usually don't. Month Day Year 09/04/2019

@bowman81 actually... i found the opposite.. men were way more, or at very least as sensitive about their age.. (add that to the male sensitivity re losing their virility!) and I met more than a few who had pics that were at least 10 years out of date.. men tell me women did that too.. so it's at very least even.. tho none of them men or women actually lied about their age..

In the USA it's month, date, year

@Backtoscratch When I write it on checks, on reports, letters, etc. I post October 26, 2019. Always have, and that’s how many of us in the U.S. do it. It’s another insignificant difference in our cultures, I imagine. You’re certainly not changing us, and we’ve no desire to change you. Can’t we just accept each other’s differences and move on ?

Just to be awkward?

I don't know about Americans but that format is better for sorting in data manipulation, Year-Month-Day makes it easy to put data in chronological order
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
Because it has been that way for many decades, that's why. Maybe you could go back in time to when the date was first written out that way and find out why 🤔.
I guess it is one of those cultural stuff; like for instance, why do only English folks have ananas as a pineapple and all the world has it as ananas? 🤗

I write dates that way, most Americans seem to use the format month day year which seems odd to me.

No logical reason.
Just like the way Mr.Webster preferred his compilation of spellings .
No logical reason.
What? I always do 9/4/19. I never write it that way.

For the FDA it has to be 2019-10-26 for today's date. That's the law.

No class! 🤷‍♀️
The same reason they spell words that leave out the u.Its 26/10/19 today

@TheSirfurryanimalWales Writing 26-Oct-2019 makes it clear which is the month.
@badminton yes-But we always do date month year.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
probably because we don't like the French. Which we mostly got from the English. Except Lafayette, he was bon!

It should be year/month/day. Everything else is stupid.

Don't know, but I do date file entries that way.

@Backtoscratch It's just less trouble to keep track of. If I run the same report every few days it easy to name it "Report-test-91017" Then next time I run it, all I need to do is back space a few characters and change the date.
graywanderer · 46-50, M
I prefer the former way. It’s impossible to sort the American way.
I’ve never written it that way.
