what do you think of volunteering? is it worth it?

what do you think of volunteering? is it worth it if you are trying to make friends from volunteering? I enjoyed volunteering at the library when i lived somewhere else and now i cant find a place thats worth the money to volunteer they all require background checks which i have to pay for. or i have to pay for parking because its in the city. I volunteered at ah hospital and hated it, everyone would yell at me i would get very lost and i just felt completely sick to my stomach.

I think we should all put in some time at some point, a civic duty of sorts to make the world better.
It's sometimes more difficult to find a group of people you enjoy spending your time with while doing volunteer work. I think it's worth at least trying. It feels good to do good.
Sorry for your bad experience. My volunteers at our hospital were cherished and are an imperative as a healing modality. They deserve a lot of gratitude for the work they do.

Our volunteer department were a satisfied and happy group.
@Grateful4you yes thanks, I volunteered at a huge hospital there is close to 14 thousand paid employees it is a children's hospital and everyone is misrible there, underpaid and underappreciated. I am looking for the kind of job to interact with people and make friends not just change bed pans and i am having a hard time with that.

I think it feels good when you know you are making a difference to peoples lives, I was on a non-profit board for 2 years and it just didn't feel right because everything was about money and it kinda left a bad taste in my mouth
I want to volunteer I think it would be good to make friends and learn new things!
@LittleTinks You will get a huge sense of satisfaction, in truth, volunteering is as therapeutic for you as it is for the patient.
My hubby volunteers at his local marine shop and loves it so it’s something I’m thinking about but with healing others! @Grateful4you
Another aspect is that you meet and make new friends with both staff and the clients/patients. Unlike a lot of hospitals our cafeteria has great food and our volunteers get free meals.
awww, its not right of them to make you pay for their required backround checks. I do not agree at all with that. I admit city parking is sadly a costly affair if you need to use the system on a daily basis! I am not sure why they yelled at you at the hospital, that sounds VERY unfair to me Miss. Im so sorry ... here's a 🌈 for you to make your day better

If you are going to volunteer you need something that is going to make you happy and not upset. I do volunteer work at the moment and I like it. There is bound to be something for you, you only have to find it. Hope all goes well

I came from a Catholic background. So we volunteered for school. But I also did it even after that, even after I was no longer a Catholic I volunteered like in a soup kitchen.

It felt good a bit. I didn't make any friends, though I talked to a few people.

The Humane Society let's you volunteer, cause I did. There was too much fur though that stuck to my clothes so I didn't do it again. Although I love and care for animals.

Maybe you can read for kids at a children's hospital? Or if you play some instrument you can maybe give a small concert? Just throwing some ideas, don't know if they'll accept you.

I volunteered for years at a women's shelter back home. I'm sure you can find a place that will suit your needs and budget. It is worth the effort ten times over when you help someone in need

Volunteering is a wonderful experience and a great way to step out and meet people. Soup kitchens and things like that are always looking and that's a great way to realize how blessed we really are.....:)
