what do you think of volunteering? is it worth it?

what do you think of volunteering? is it worth it if you are trying to make friends from volunteering? I enjoyed volunteering at the library when i lived somewhere else and now i cant find a place thats worth the money to volunteer they all require background checks which i have to pay for. or i have to pay for parking because its in the city. I volunteered at ah hospital and hated it, everyone would yell at me i would get very lost and i just felt completely sick to my stomach.

I came from a Catholic background. So we volunteered for school. But I also did it even after that, even after I was no longer a Catholic I volunteered like in a soup kitchen.

It felt good a bit. I didn't make any friends, though I talked to a few people.

The Humane Society let's you volunteer, cause I did. There was too much fur though that stuck to my clothes so I didn't do it again. Although I love and care for animals.

Maybe you can read for kids at a children's hospital? Or if you play some instrument you can maybe give a small concert? Just throwing some ideas, don't know if they'll accept you.
