All the money is almost right...the real answer is more than all the money.
What you have with a wedding is two people AND all of both families who have definite and often conflicting ideas about what should happen, who should be in the wedding, who should be invited, blah blah.
If parents are paying for it, what exactly do they get for their money? Watching their daughter wear an $8000 dress once, knowing that a year or two from now, the new couple will be fighting over money?
If a big fancy wedding is your dream, go for it, but understand what it will cost you and yours.
The answer to your question is it varies. My stepson got married (after the baby was born so she could wear her gown) and it cost over forty thousand dollars and two years later they divorced. Sick of being broke.

A wedding is often expensive and a hassle to plan and carry out. Relatives put you under pressure to do various things or invite/not invite various people. The stress is huge.
Instead, you could choose to have a very quietly romantic, secret, private wedding at your honeymoon spot, like a sundown wedding on a hill in Maui with Hawaiian guitar, Hawaiian wedding dress, flowers, photos, just you and the one you love (and the clergyman + witnesses)...then, you mail out marriage announcements to friends along with invitations to a Reception to take place a few weeks after the private wedding and honeymoon. Then, when you return, you have the Reception, as simple or fancy as you like.

As much or as little as you are willing and able to spend on it. My friends were married for nearly 50 years (he died last year) and all they did was take a bus downtown and get a license.

it can cost as little as the fee for filing and gas to get to the courthouse, or as much as you'd like to spend and more. there is no upward limit.
How fancy do you want it to be? It can be simple or extravagant. The more you add, the more expensive it gets.
