All the money is almost right...the real answer is more than all the money.
What you have with a wedding is two people AND all of both families who have definite and often conflicting ideas about what should happen, who should be in the wedding, who should be invited, blah blah.
If parents are paying for it, what exactly do they get for their money? Watching their daughter wear an $8000 dress once, knowing that a year or two from now, the new couple will be fighting over money?
If a big fancy wedding is your dream, go for it, but understand what it will cost you and yours.
The answer to your question is it varies. My stepson got married (after the baby was born so she could wear her gown) and it cost over forty thousand dollars and two years later they divorced. Sick of being broke.
