Does anyone remember how Washington Republicans hated Trump 4 years ago?

They saw Trump as pulling the carpet out from under them at a crucial time. During the primaries they were constantly telling us Trump did not represent them or their ideals. After the famous " grab 'em by the p___y tape Paul Ryan told his people "Do whatever you have to do to hold onto your seats" meaning don't endorse the GOP presidential candidate if you think it will hurt your chances.

4 years later many of these same people praise Trump. Protect him. Fear getting on his bad side.

I got the impression after Trump unexpectedly won that election that the Republicans thought they'd reign him in and make him part of the Party of Lincoln and Reagan.
Nope.
He made them the Party of Trump.

They are starting to wake up to the mistake they made of substituting their Republican and conservative values for the intoxication of catering to the disjointed whims of a madman. It's too late for them as individuals... but possibly the Republican Party will be able to decontaminate itself from Baby-trump and "build itself back better."
The Republicans have always been the party of trump. Trump didn't create white supremacy or the KKK or militias that think kidnapping and government takeover is patriotic. Or ultra radicalism. Trump didn't create racism.........or lying....or mega-corruption in the GOP. He simply told and showed Republicans it is OK to do all of those things publicly.

People think Trump changed the party. That's not true at all. What we see in society now.....cheering for screwing whores behind your wives backs....dissing veterans...making fun of the handicapped.....all drew huge applause and cheers.
Laughing as children and babies die in cages....open racism.....cheating on taxes....clapping for outrageous bordering on delusional lies.......none of that just instantly happened on Jan. 20, 2016. That element of society that love such things was ALWAYS there. That is why trump found support in the beginning. He hates people, races, genders, laws, equal rights-----openly. If it's not white and it don't make him money--or has a law behind it----he hates it. In a nutshell trump hates the same people Republicans have always hated privately. It's no more complicated than that. Trump never created the GOP........Trump was ALWAYS the GOP.
@anythingoes477 I think it's fair to say Trump opened up a Pandora's Box of ugliness that was living quietly among us. And it's grown exponentially.

I watched a 2016 video where Republicans were surprised that most Republicans were enjoying Trump's "circus act".

There are some never Trumper republicans.

There's no such thing as 'reigning in Trump'.

That's one reason Ryan left politics.

There is no republican party in America anymore, it's been highjacked!!
@Harriet03 I have a 91 year old die hard Republican uncle that feels that way.
That’s precisely what happened. Trump is vindictive and the career GOP both chose to coddle him and use him for their own agenda. But outside of Trump’s government, the Lincoln Project and RVAT also appeared.
Rinos fear declass just as much as the Dems.
Paul Ryan is a dem cuck failure.
Graham is a stooge.

It’s just necessary to sort the Dems out first as they are the priority threat..

@MarmeeMarch I checked the Hill a few minutes ago. They predict a Biden landslide.
