What happens when you are defined as unstable?

The new law in Florida makes me out to be a risk. The law allows them to seize guns and ammo from people who are considered to be a threat. The first person who was victimized was an Army veteran. I went and read the law. I don't feel like I should have to turn in my guns but it's like the law was written to take my guns away specifically. Maybe I need to get rid of my guns? I hate the idea of yielding my control of my life and the guns make me feel like I have some control. I am a veteran. I am a combat veteran. Maybe I am unstable.

Just bury them in a safe spot for when you do need them for when shit hits the fan globally.

I think I may just do that. It would be so much work though. I have lots. I am considering selling down my collection to a bare minimum then bury that. @SW-User

@Genieinabottle good idea, keep the arms where type of ammo is more available, 12g shotgun ammo you can do so much with it for bug out defence like perimeter booby traps or even explosive arrowheads for bow weapons.

@SW-User I agree the 12 g shotgun is the Premier must have survival weapon. I enhanced the capabilities of my break action 12g with a muzzle loading kit, and a set of adapters that let me fire (pretty accurately) about 12 handgun rounds from 32 to 44 mag and 10mm. I love the flexibility. I could get by with just that and a good pistol. I love so much of what I have though - it will be so hard to get rib guns I spent so much money and time collecting. It cannot be avoided though. I wish people would just leave me alone. I am no danger. They will mark me as a danger but I have been as I am for DECADES and never hurt anyone. I resent this law so much. I want to just move out of the state

It's complicated. It's complicated as hell. I'm a vet. Some people shouldn't have guns. Some people shouldn't have guns at some time, but we have no system that says when it's OK. Take care of yourself.

They will do everything they can to keep guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens and to keep from placing the responsibility for unlawful use of guns where they should....
The NRA was fighting to stop laws like this but in the Trump World this might be a potent to putting certain people away. They were not stable enough to have guns, then they are not stable so they should not be part of society and as long as the numbers are small compared to general population you know people will just go along with putting some people away but then there will be another group that needs to go. You should be able to protect yourself.
Genieinabottle · 51-55, M
He NRA should be fighting these bullshit laws that open then gates to abuse of power. The language is so vague "including but not limited to" the factors that can constitute a threat - they can take anything they want.@Pitchblue
@Genieinabottle And if you have a gun in your home or they think you do they can enter your home even when you are not there now.
Genieinabottle · 51-55, M
Thinking about them taking my guns paradoxically makes me MORE of a threat because I feel fear, anxiety, anger, and I want to fight them if they come or kill myself. Neither thing would happen if they just left me alone. You know it could go horribly wrong horribly fast if they show up to take your guns. They are probably scared and ready to gun you down already. You defend yourself from someone trying to steal your shit just because they said so and now you are dead or in prison. All off which was avoidable if they just left me alone.

That's actually the reason I stay away from guns. I can't stop my head from imagining/craving to put a gun up to it. I can't stop imagining a car running me over as I cross the street eitheir.(Are they going to make it illegal to cross the stree?) But I get it things like this makes people (especially men) afraid to seek help. Like all I seem to see is bad results from people that get put on medication.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
I guess it was ok to protect them, but not you.
How easy is it now to get someone's guns seized?
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@Genieinabottle it's just the begining, only going to escalate over time.
Someone doesn't like ya, your fucked!
Genieinabottle · 51-55, M
@Virgo79 it's the new thing, instead of swatting someone you call them in and say they are threatening and the police raid the house and seize all their shit. It's not necessarily temporary either - you have to petition to get the stuff back and the onus is on you to prove you are no danger. You KNOW you cannotprove a negative so your basically fucked.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@Genieinabottle yup!
Exactly 😡
Doomflower · 36-40, M
How did they determine you are unstable?
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@Genieinabottle it's notoriously difficult to track suicide rates due to stigma which tends to get a lot of suicides labeled accidental.
Genieinabottle · 51-55, M
So you think taking guns away makes it harder to kill yourself? Really?
Genieinabottle · 51-55, M
We could do a whole thread on ways to kill yourself other than firearms, not to mention bows have arrows with shotgun shell tips
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
My husband was depressed because of meds and they seized his guns.He was fine once on diff meds.
Genieinabottle · 51-55, M
