Sick Days?

So, I called in this morning to let my manager know that I have a horrible ear infection and that I would be late. She also stressed that I needed to be there because they were already short handed two people. Now, I don't mean to be rude, but that's not my problem!!! She gave me some numbers of people to call so I could find someone to cover, and told me to go to the doctor now so I could be in on time. (I couldn't find anyone)

Excuse me, what?

What doctor does she go to!? No doctor is going to be that quick, and I couldn't even get in until 10:30. (My shift starts at 10.) So, I called back, and luckily my assistant manager picked up and was MUCH nicer about it, saying that he'd let my manager know. But why can't my manager just be sympathetic and not let other people call in who don't need off?

Some bosses take the p.ss tbh and dont care at all about u personally. I understand its business but in the age of exploitation they kind of put u in a awkward and sometimes scary position if ur ill as they know there are hundreds/thousands even who.ll take ur place in a heart beat. Its hard to give notice on "sudden illness and tbh it should be thier job to find cover.

Sounds frustrating. How is your manager otherwise? Sometimes people who are managers should not really have that position. And sorry about your ear infection. Does it hurt very bad?
@RussellD But I guess I'll just go from there if that happens.

Maybe it would be nice for you to have a day off!
@RussellD It definitely would! But there's no chance of that happening. My manager would be pissed!

Because some managers are pretty heartless....
unfortunately that is the way of some managers , who think of the organization instead of the well being of their workers

It's rare I ever get in quickly to see a doctor when I need to.

Maybe the difference between a “she” and a “he”???

Your manager is suffering from douchehole syndrome. Possibly stress induced, possibly naturally occurring.

I hope you feel better soon

You were informing her you would not be in, not asking her permission.If others are already off that is not your problem.
@tallpowerhouseblonde I agree. I'm just glad I left there! I quit today!

That is your sign to move on, find another employer.

@marilynmichelle

Oh, you are most welcome! Sometimes receiving those signs is not just about finding another employer, you know! Sometimes those signs are there to refocus your attention into perhaps becoming self-employed... starting a small business.

When we are working full-time, we simply do not have the opportunity nor the time to pursue self-employment opportunities. But when we suddenly leave a job, a narrow window of opportunity is opened for us where we can either pursue another opportunity to become someone else's employee again, or we can become the 'employER' in our own business. Keep that in mind too!
@swirlie I definitely will! I am a student right now, but I think I am going to take a break before looking for a job again.

@marilynmichelle

Good idea! Taking a break gives one's mind the opportunity to re-group, so to speak. Let me know if you ever want to talk about options! I wish you a ton of good fortune! 🎰
