Sick Days?

So, I called in this morning to let my manager know that I have a horrible ear infection and that I would be late. She also stressed that I needed to be there because they were already short handed two people. Now, I don't mean to be rude, but that's not my problem!!! She gave me some numbers of people to call so I could find someone to cover, and told me to go to the doctor now so I could be in on time. (I couldn't find anyone)

Excuse me, what?

What doctor does she go to!? No doctor is going to be that quick, and I couldn't even get in until 10:30. (My shift starts at 10.) So, I called back, and luckily my assistant manager picked up and was MUCH nicer about it, saying that he'd let my manager know. But why can't my manager just be sympathetic and not let other people call in who don't need off?

Sounds frustrating. How is your manager otherwise? Sometimes people who are managers should not really have that position. And sorry about your ear infection. Does it hurt very bad?
@RussellD Thanks for the concern. I took some Advil, so it's a bit better now. She is generally okay, but not great, in my opinion. I just think she'll be upset when it takes me so long to get to work today because I couldn't get into a doctor "right away."

When do you go to the doctor?
@RussellD at 10:30.
@RussellD But my shift starts at 10:00.

What if the doctor says you need to stay home?
@RussellD I doubt they will for just an ear infection.
@RussellD But I guess I'll just go from there if that happens.

Maybe it would be nice for you to have a day off!
@RussellD It definitely would! But there's no chance of that happening. My manager would be pissed!
