What are some car-buying tips you have?

I really need a new car.
My parents are trying to help me decide.
They are trying to talk me into ugly cars that I do not like.
They made me get the ugly car that I have now, back when I was a teen. I got ripped off because I went to a place my dad told me to go. A place he's been getting cars.

It's many years later. I do not want to be ripped off again.
I know that I'd need to put a good amount down, in order to have cheap car payments....
I really don't want to finance a car, because I think paying interest is stupid.
I know that if I pay the car off quickly, I'd pay less in interest.

I have thought about getting a cheaper cash car, but then that would come with more miles, which most likely means more car problems. Problems that I most likely won't have if I buy a newer car, around $10k , which is still alot to me, but I want a good car with no car problems for at least a few years. So sick of having car problems. My current car is 15 years old and will not pass inspection (unless I get x,y and z fixed)..

🤦🏾‍♀️😖🚗

*oh, and i do have a trusted, personal mechanic whom I will consult before purchasing anything.
Japanese Cars, honda, nissan toyota, are long lasing, and if maintained, can be very reliable, even cheap to run, even 120,000 miles has LOTS of time on it yet.
volvos are tanks, in good shape they can last forever.

before you by, web search the car, see it it has notorious problems.
some do, sometimes just one year or model

all used cars will need something. use that mechanic pal of yours.

Craigslist can be sketchy, many fake adds claiming EBAY motors.
but i HAVE found good cars thru c list.

see if some one you know, has a car to sell, more honest usually

DOnt be stuck on ugly, or cute, the car is not YOU it is not YOUR FACE
it is transport in safety, choose that way first!

bigger does NOT mean safer, often the opposite.

@SatyrService TRUE Toyota is best

@SatyrService okay, and that is interest...got it. I will drive the car TO my mechanic, since that's what he asked me to do
@iamnikki not a bad idea. but get some idea on how much THAT cr should cost in your area, that carfax thing is usefull too.

You can likely find a decent car for 10k if you're will to make some payments afterwards. It could be worth it. I want to make suggestions, but it's all based on many things. In general, a Hyundai is gonna be a solid car, and not too expensive to maintain.
Don't get a car that was previously a rental car. Speaking as someone who rents cars, we don't give a fuck what happens to that car. Time to play 😈
A dealership will charge more, and is not so often more reliable than private dealers. They're snakes really. If you can haggle, it can work for you.
More stuff maybe 🤔 but I just got high..

You just have to do your research. Find out what cars are most reliable, and what's going to work out for you. The best time to buy is the end of October and January. Shop around many places seeing how far each place will come down on price. Already have the financial stuff ready to go before stepping foot in the dealership. Like if you need to be approved for a loan get yourself preapproved before contacting them. It shows you are serious and they have to earn your money.

@Arorin I prefer Toyota but there are other good companies besides them. Like a Honda civic would survive a nuclear holocaust

My dad kept trying to get me to buy ugly cars too. I know he was looking for something mechanically solid but you can get ones that look good.

Never buy a used car without first getting a trusted mechanic to look it over.

@indyjoe i do have a trusted, personal mechanic whom I will consult before purchasing anything.
Make it affordable and pay cash..
Bank loans for a car isn’t so wise
Ive always bought cheapies and run them into the ground.. I’ve saved a lot of money by not having a flash car..
get a common car that parts arnt hard to find for 😎👌@iamnikki

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout right. But you are a guy who probably has car knowledge. I don't..I will learn but right now, I don't so I don't want a car that most likely has more problems than my current one.
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout i think cash is best too

Research is key. A web site with a lot of information on cars and buying them is https://www.edmunds.com/used-cars-for-sale/

Hyundai’s or Honda’s are usually good cars
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@rokrchik1211 yea, i know, its the prices that have me uncertain
rokrchik1211 · 26-30, F
Hmm well Hyundai’s used to be on the lower end of cost for cars, not sure if they still are, but if you get one without all the fancy features it may be a little less @iamnikki
