The Quick Red Fox
by John D. MacDonald

I'm rereading the Travis McGee series. What a joy!

I spent the summer of 1981 sitting on my front porch swing reading Travis McGee. A nice memory!
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@hunkalove: The series is dated but it still reads well. MacDonald is the ultimate storyteller of 20th century America.

@greenmountaingal: lol! It only sounds bad! There is absolutely no description of what happens to her or the other victims in the book. You have to use your imagination. I prefer the author to go into gory detail.

@CityHigh12: Usually, leaving some of it to a reader's imagination increases the horror since what we imagine are our own worst fears and visions. That's why radio drama when I was a kid listening to programs like Inner Sanctum was so much scarier than TV could ever be. For example, listen to the old radio classic, Sorry, Wrong Number.

By the way, the reviews I read on Amazon warned people that it was so horrifying that even Stephen King fans couldn't handle Survivor
I am a Stephen King fan.

@greenmountaingal: I have a terrifying imagination, but I'm used to it. I wanted something worse from a book. Reading the reviews made me think I had finally found a book worse than my nightmares. Total let down 😞

Rise of The Warrior Cop by Radley Balko. It's a well-researched book and should be read by every Chief of Police throughout the world.
