Why do people commit crimes eventhough they too know that one day cops will come to know and arrest them?

FurryFace · 61-69, M
a couple of reasons i can think of is 1) they don't think that day will come , 2) they can use the cash right away to enhance their lives and to hell with the consequences later on 3) they think they're cleverer than the stupid Law , lol , which sometimes is the case sad to say , 4) they've justified in their mindset in doing something they don't see as a crime , i'm sure there's more to this Q but it was interesting
There are plenty of criminals who got away with their crimes. 🤔 My favorite is Thelma Wright. She sold millions in heroin, decided to get out of the game when she thought it was too dangerous any longer, waited for the statutes of limitations to be up and wrote a book about the whole experience.

So I’m assuming they don’t think they will be caught.

People do things for a variety of reasons, desperation, opportunity, excitement, etc. They don't "know that one day cops will come to know and arrest them." Some assume they'll never be caught.

That’s why we need prisons and police . Some people don’t care what society says or who they hurt . Sociopaths exist .

I think the same sort of mentality is one present in youth, where they have no conception of their own mortality or even their own frailty, and take tremendous risks, not realizing they only have ONE body, and failing to understand the big suck of a lifetime of consequences.

To some, it's a heady type of game, and to others, it's a pretense of machismo generated by fear of their peers. And I think that there is a third category of those who are so drugged up and so drunk they don't even think about things like cameras.

They don't think before they make the crime they just do it. They hate their lives already so why not just spend it in jail right.

Excitement?
Desperation?
Disbelief that they'll get caught

@JovialPlutonian Drugs. Illegal drugs are very expensive.

Um…have you actually looked at the clearance rate for crimes? If you're planning to stop short of murder, they're generally quite encouraging for a person contemplating illegal acts.
