Is prostitution inherently immoral?

SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I put a response before but wanted to also add that consensual sex is legal but all of a sudden you put cash to it and now it's illegal. When put that way, the way we view sex work is sort of odd.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SatanBurger Hurray! Promise its worth every second.
@SatanBurger

Yeah good point. That is a bit weird.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@CountScrofula I watched it, it really was great but a bit upsetting. Summary offenses? So you don't have to prove it in court, you can just take them to jail? And also evicting sex workers from their homes and not just sex workers also, just people merely suspected.

Wtf. Talk about bullying and harassment, I wonder how the people who kick sex workers out of their home or even just suspected ones can even sleep at night knowing they made someone homeless. I do hope what goes around, comes around sometime for these people. Maybe they will be homeless one day themselves, karma.

I liked the part about New Zealand and that sex workers can take clients to court for violating their terms and service. This to me makes more sense 👍

Yes. Making love is intended to be the most important and the most beautiful act in the world, because it creates a new life and hopefully follows promisses of faithfulness and committment. The world cheapens it to be something common, dirty, and meaningless. I think prostitution is a sin. However if people want it legal ok , I still except peoples choices to live however they want, and do what they want.

It is so easy to say that God is mean, but you are wrong. This life is short and then we live forever. Some things happen to strengthen us that are hard. a little child can say that Mom is so mean, but the child does not know that Mom is doing what is best. We need to trust that God has a plan for us and our families. My Mom is sick. She is not a Christian yet. I need to trust that when she dies God has her in his mind and knows best. I need to leave my worries with God. It is very hard to live life questioning God on every turn. It leaves anxiety and depression. It is just better to believe what he says that he made us he loves us and when things go wrong we can learn from it and become stronger and help others too. we will all die some time. It doesn't mean he doesn't love us.
@Carazaa
but it is still a poor argument if God is the author of the Bible.
If.
Exactly.

What if Allah is the author of the quran?
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu I don't think He claims to be, but I could be wrong. Ill research that.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
No. I feel like I have problems with the word inherently (not implying you think any one way, just generally) because it applies a black and white narrative to prostitution. I'm not a sex worker but I know enough to know that there's many different avenues of what sex work is.

And what Laura Lee said in this nice article titled Sex Workers want rights, not rescue:

https://ravishly.com/2014/10/18/sex-workers-want-rights%25E2%2580%2594not-rescue
@SatanBurger

As far as i'm concerned sex work is just another job. Some people really like it. Others wouldn't do it if they didn't need to pay the bills.
Sex workers just need to have the same rights and protections that you or i have at our jobs.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
No. Exploitation is. but a transaction between two consenting adults is their business.

no, but the fact thats pimps exist i think is what makes it immoral, because its like an under the table kind of job (no pay check from a company just cash) and the women are oftened abused and under payed. i know escort companies exist but idk if there is more rules to protect the women or how they really work at all so i cant give my opinion on that.
@NativeOregonian @CodeLyoko

Guys, cool it. Neither of you are debating at present. You're just fighting.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Pikachu Not fighting, just putting an impertanent punk in his place, back to the kiddy table where he belongs.
CodeLyoko · 16-17, M
@Pikachu lol youre right im getting a little worked up on a sw thread that i wont think about ever again in the next hour🙂 ill call it a day
NativeOregonian · 51-55
No, if anything it needs to be legalized, more for their protection than anything. That is why Nevada legalized brothels, for protection.
Bandit2398 · 51-55, M
As long as they choose to be prostituts then I don’t think it’s immoral.
What’s immoral is to shame prostitues.
Carazaa · F
@Bandit2398 I agree.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Bandit2398 Agreed.
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
No, if they are choosing to be a prostitute. If they were forced by any means including monetary necessity, it’s immoral.
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
@NativeOregonian I just said I only think it’s immoral when forced and said absolutely nothing else...so no reason to come and bother me when you agree with me. You just love annoying people, apparently.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian There's also a lot of men in the sex industry. And that's really sweet, if prostitution was legalized there should be unions for them.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SatanBurger I completely agree about the unions. I knew quite a few men in the sex industry in the late 80's to mid 90's, I was a part time fluffer for several small studios in Portland during that time.

If someone is being forced against their will or fighting dire circumstances; I find it immoral.

Beyond that, there are various schools of thought on the subject that break down behavior by both men and women in stable relationships as being virtual prostitution.
But because marital relations falls as a "duty" and part of the marriage contract, trading sex for goods/money/experiences - it no longer qualifies as "prostitution" or has an immoral aspect to it.
@SStarfish
