I judge people individually. Regardless of gender, colour etc. It's not good to label people

This is pretty damn insightful! I like this. So much has to do with the eyes that see, and not what is being seen. Do you know what I mean? There is a very old saying that sounds like a new one.

"We don't see things the way they are. We see things the way 'we' are."

I'm afraid a lot of it has to do with guilty consciences. If you are a habitual criminal , you expose a duality. As a habitual criminal you get nervous around law enforcement, and there's a real good chance that you are the first to recognize the fellow criminal. If you are a racist, your natural defense mechanism is to see a racist behind every bush! If you are a misogynist, you automatically see misogynists everywhere. I've actually had an extensive formal education in diversity training, and one of the first things they stress is the fact that we all individually need to be honest about our own prejudiced thinking, while knowing the difference between 'prejudice' and 'racism'. The two biggest causes of racism is the lack of education and information, and simple denial. If we convince ourselves that we are socially enlightened enough to put the 'scarlet letter' of racism on anyone we want, we most likely need to seriously engage in some honest introspection and deal with our deeply ingrained racism. The same goes for all the other 'isms' and 'phobias'.

To some on this site, I am one of the worst racist misogynist homophobic xenophobic Archie Bunker on steroids types on this site, and to others I'm wise and socially enlightened.
It's not so much what is being seen, but whose eyes are doing the seeing.

Pretty accurate. The assumption of moral inferiority can be found in any form of bigotry, either as a basis for the bigotry or an after-the-fact justification for it. In the case of anti-black racism, it's more-often-than-not a basis. In the case of misandry, it's an after-the-fact justification.

Hard to argue with that. Labeling a whole group of people on the behavior of some in that group is wrong.

Black people & men were generalized so I instantly dismissed what was being said. I think the victims here are black people & men. “If you were on of the good ones you would support this”

Just like racists, there are few feminists who go around saying "All men are horrible".

Most people understand that you can't label whole groups as any one thing. That being said, I don't really see a bad thing in presenting an ad that shows men being good examples and asking all men to be better where they can.

I don't see that commercial and think, "Well I am not perfect, so they must think I am horrible" I see it and think, "Yea we do have some societal problems with toxic masculinity, we do need to work on them".

Could it be rectified by adding the word “some” at the beginning? And maybe changing black to men on both? Ohhhh maybe that’s what your trying to point out. The post shows that All men harass women, only black men are criminlas? Well that’s BS. But there are some issues/weaknesses within every culture!

😪 individually no one is perfect & overall no human is perfect @Mindful

@Mindful in the Gillette ad some felt men were being demonised and a lot of feminists responded with that last line. The poster compared this to racism to show how ridiculous their justification was

True but to say some Italians are not family oriented would statistically be untrue. Most are family oriented , and even when they move, they move as a family unit. Many AMERICANS move as far away from family and find themselves isolated. So yes there are good and negative stereo types that are true of some cultures. To say that many Jews don’t care about money is also a falsehood.so let’s not deny what our cultures are known for, but rather address it head on, in a healthy way not by pretending it isn’t true where it is true. Not by ignoring that some white criminals don’t get arrested. Let’s not ignore that some black men need more positive male role models to overcome obstacles even today. Some men are sick in the way they treat women@SW-User
