Is it okay to take a handbag to an interview? Ive been told both you can and cant. Surely you can to hold your stuff likresume and purse and phone etc

Job interviews make me nervous.

I've never heard that you shouldn't take a handbag into an interview. It's normal for a woman to carry one. It's generally expected women will have their handbags with them. FYI, when you go on the interview, shut off your phone before you go in or put it on mute. The interviewer will be annoyed if they're interrupted. Common courtesy type of thing.

And, don't be nervous. They need to hire someone for the job. If you've managed to get an interview, it means there is something about you that made them want to interview you. So, you have already beaten out competition by getting this opportunity. Charm them and make them feel they need your talents. Good luck!

@SW-User the phone would be a deal breaker, turn it off, explain the reson for the handback, for personal notes etc,

@Bluesky52 Why should she explain the reason for the handbag or what she's chosen to carry in it? I've never known an interviewer to question why a woman has her handbag with her or ask her to explain what she keeps in it.

@SW-User right,i agree, that would violate her rights putting it that way,,,,

Handbag is optional, a short skirt is a Must!! Not to short.

@SW-User We're all "sitting " on the power, we just don't use it!!

@Harriet03 Hmmm. You must have missed all the meetings in which men ignore a woman's solution to a problem, only to have one of the men pipe up 5 minutes later with the same solution, and be given a pat on the back and a raise for it.

I think it is incase you have something to share like a note book or pictures regarding work,,,,actually a a handbag may be a sign of being organized
If there are people around who deny job opportunities because you're holding a purse, there should be a nuclear war right now.

It should look professional.
Not some designer purse that gives someone the impression that you have never worked a day in your life.

as long as you don't drop a dookie in it during the interview, i don't see why it would be an issue.
I would never hire a woman with a handbag unless it was made from the fur from a baby seal.

Come on, do you really want a job where such triviality matters? I probably wouldn't.
