I've never heard that you shouldn't take a handbag into an interview. It's normal for a woman to carry one. It's generally expected women will have their handbags with them. FYI, when you go on the interview, shut off your phone before you go in or put it on mute. The interviewer will be annoyed if they're interrupted. Common courtesy type of thing.

And, don't be nervous. They need to hire someone for the job. If you've managed to get an interview, it means there is something about you that made them want to interview you. So, you have already beaten out competition by getting this opportunity. Charm them and make them feel they need your talents. Good luck!

@Bluesky52 Why should she explain the reason for the handbag or what she's chosen to carry in it? I've never known an interviewer to question why a woman has her handbag with her or ask her to explain what she keeps in it.
