What are your geeky obsessions?

Or at least pastimes.
SW-User
Geeky stuff? Hmm. I guess I have an obsession with reading novels. Like Halo. But I really want to start reading Jurassic Park Novels as my next series. But I mean other than, watching documentaries I guess.

@SW-User If you move to WWI (which I always found more interesting because it's just such a weird war) I totally recommend the book the Proud Tower by Barbara Tuchman. Or like, antyhing she's written. Great popular historian.
SW-User
@CountScrofula Yeah definitely was a weird war! I鈥檒l get more into it eventually! Some gruesome things in that war too. I鈥檒l check it out whenever I have free time! Thanks for the recommendation!
@SW-User I began to study philoshy on my own and I realised how much I enjoyed it. Along with history and science. I learned a lot about WW1 & WW2 over the years.
I didn't take a great interest in those subjects when I was in high school but found an interest in learning more years later.

Now I just try and educate myself and I do that by doing my own research.

There is much more to learn than what the public schools taught back in my day.
Doing my own research. I like to study things.

Whenever I'm sick and home alone, I have mini-movie marathons of either LOTR or Harry Potter. 馃
TwilightPrincess41-45, F
@Caprice both are excellent choices
Caprice41-45, F
@TwilightPrincess It's the best part of being sick:p
XDHyperGirlXD131-35, F
@Caprice I like lord of the rings and harry potter too :D

CountScrofula41-45, M

I tabletop game with my IRL friends, someone always seems to have something new to try but I'm usually more partial to the old standbys.

I like to tent camp bordering on glamping.

Legos. I always loved them and when I had a kid it was an excuse to start buying sets again. Who thought it was a good idea for Santa to bring a preschooler Ewok Village? This crazy bitch right here. Who os losing their mind that there's a 2018 Hogwarts Castle? [Hint ...it isn't my 2nd grader]

Music. I need to hear all the new music. Like I review the weekly releases on a few different media platforms [YouTube channels/Spotify/bandcamp] and listen to an listener supported indie alternative station and maaaybe a sustaining member. I have both a cumulative all time and a 2018 new songs playlist on Spodify and an offline list to add songs later that aren't on spotify.

@CountScrofula
My all time favorite is Killer Bunnies.

We play Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan and several varieties of Munchkin.

Last summer I picked up Bears vs Babies, Pretending to Grown Up and Exploding Kittens.

My good friends still play hours and hours of Magic but I never got into that or D&D.

Most recently we've been playing this. It took like 7 attempts playing before we beat it, but I wasn't playing that night when they did so I'm kinda bummed.

Are you on spotify?
CountScrofula41-45, M
@Starcrossed I've played like half of those board games, Killer Bunnies looks fabulous. I think my favorite board game so far is Time STories, which is like this narrative-heavy memory/puzzle game. Huge fan.

And I am on spotify!
Starcrossed41-45, F
@CountScrofula I've never heard of it, will have to check it out.
I'm kinda obsessed with lego mini figures, and figurines in general. Also stuffed animals. And it pains me that my aunt won't let me decorate my room with them. It kinda makes me wish I never moved in with her but no rent was very enticing to say in the least...
@CountScrofula
I have never heard of that one before but it does look interesting

Hahaha, google says it a "Cyberpunk Bartender Action is a booze em' up about waifus..."
CountScrofula41-45, M
@TURTLEGOD Yeah. You play a bartender and there's a minigame of mixing drinks as you talk to the various cyberpunk weirdos who show up. Good stuff.
@CountScrofula
Oh, sounds good then. I might give that one a swing too!

CountScrofula41-45, M
@Caprice what he said. They're going through a huge renaissance and there's a major, major industry and scene for them.
DunningKruger61-69, M
@CountScrofula I've been reading through Unknown Armies. I like it a lot, but when I considered whether I wanted to run it, I started thinking about Chronicles of Darkness, which I've always liked. I've played the Savage Worlds version of Space: 1889 a couple times, and I like it well enough. Have you looked at the playtest version of Pathfinder 2? On the one hand, it appeals to my love of system crunch, while on the other hand, it seems far too complex to actually run.
CountScrofula41-45, M
@DunningKruger Unknown Armies is probably my favorite game system, I REALLY recommend it. Savage worlds is an ideal pulp system - it fits best into ludicrous genres that you just embrace wholeheartedly. Also very fast and easy to pick up.

I'm running the playtest right now for PF2. It has some really great ideas and feels good to play. I'd say it is slightly more complicated than 5e, but slightly less complicated than PF 1 while retaining strong character customization.
I used to be into photography.
Had a few 35mm SLR"s and heaps of lenses and stuff.
Was into Astronomy with a good telescope and more costing me around $5000.
Was a Computer Technician and had my own servers at home with 14 scsi drives as Raid 5
Have I bored you enough 馃槾
CountScrofula41-45, M
@Robynthebeautiful No way, that's awesome! You don't half-ass your interests.

@Quicksilver87 Hahahaha.

Pok茅mon go! Final fantasy and Zelda video games. Studying weird shit just so I can know more about it

Investigative journalism is my secret passion.
CountScrofula41-45, M
@MamaButterfly I have tremendous respect for investigative journalism. I've done journalistic-style research a few times for various projects and just adore it.
SW-User
I will research the hell out of topics that interest me.
SW-User
I dunno. I feel like I don't have time for them anymore.
I'm planning on having my brother help me build a gaming PC though because I have no idea what I'm doing.
SW-User
@CountScrofula Yeah. 馃槄 He's planning on upgrading soon so he'll probably just give me those old parts. 馃槵
CountScrofula41-45, M
@SW-User Hey that's how to live! Know someone who obsesses about having a $4,000 rig and their hand me downs will still be good for most games.
CountScrofula41-45, M
@SW-User And once you've gradumagated you'll be able to escape from the horrors of reality with video games. \o/

CountScrofula41-45, M
@XDHyperGirlXD1 Awesome! And being a geek can be as girly as you want it to be, nothing inherently boyish about geeking out.
Im not geeky im crafty & artsy.
