I Am American

I've never understood this, but why is the US compared to smaller countries such as Norway, Finland, Germany, Japan or the U.K. in terms of education, crime rate, Health, etc.? Wouldn't it be more accurate to just compare the US to larger nations such as Russia, Canada, China, Australia and India?

These countries may be smaller but have a similar per-capita income. That is, they're roughly as wealthy as the US "per person". Thus it's a fair comparison... China and Russia may be bigger but they're pretty much dysfunctional third world countries on steroids, with too much of their money spend in their military while most of their people live in poverty... So they're really "too different" from western European countries and North American Countries to be considered for a fair comparison on those matters...

In terms of the 3 issues you've listed here, size is irrelevant, in my opinion.

But there are times size matters. I've had Europeans laugh that I haven't seen all of the US when they've been to several different countries. They seem clueless that the US is roughly the size of Europe.

Size has no bearing on health or education. Either a society is healthy, or it isnt. Were you to start nitpicking, you couldnt compare any country to any country, because they all have differences.

But, out of curiosity, why do you think so?

hi lilchickennugget23
There is no logical reason to limit the breadth of alternative societies on the basis of size if the purpose of the exercise is to establish where the best educational results are to be found from and can be learned from.
Best wishes

That would provide fewer opportunities to push an agenda and tell us how bad the US is.

@Sicarium: I'm certain everyone knows how bad the US is.

Size is irrelevant, if the country isn't healthy then what excuse is it to say "it's just because we're more than them". If size was the problem, then why not split up?
