I Am American

I've never understood this, but why is the US compared to smaller countries such as Norway, Finland, Germany, Japan or the U.K. in terms of education, crime rate, Health, etc.? Wouldn't it be more accurate to just compare the US to larger nations such as Russia, Canada, China, Australia and India?

There is no logical reason to limit the breadth of alternative societies on the basis of size if the purpose of the exercise is to establish where the best educational results are to be found from and can be learned from.
