Are "refugees" the new lumpenproletariat?

From Encyclopaedia Britannica: Lumpenproletariat , (German: “rabble proletariat”), according to Karl Marx in The Communist Manifesto, the lowest stratum of the industrial working class, including also such undesirables as tramps and criminals. The members of the Lumpenproletariat—this “social scum,” said Marx—are not only disinclined to participate in revolutionary activities with their “rightful brethren,” the proletariat, but also tend to act as the “bribed tools of reactionary intrigue.”

The "social scum" words are Marx's, not mine. Basically the lumpenproletariat does not have class conscience, cares just for themself, and does not hesitate to serve bourgeois interests.
Did they have welfare in communist Russia back then? 🤔
Today 'refugees' walk thru 20 safe countries shopping for the best hand outs..

@theoneyouwerewarnedabout: Communist Russia? Is that a new country? If you mean the Bolshevik revolution, that preceded the Soviet Union, that happened decades after Karl Marx died.

Serving "bourgeois" interests, is what nearly all workers today do, regardless of where they fall on the earning scale.

Read a book about the tech industry tycoons, and how employees are treated, even if the employees shackles are golden.
yeah thanks for that history lesson..
But did they have welfare?...

@theoneyouwerewarnedabout: Why would it matter? It's not like the Bolsheviks implemented a pure Marxist society, or the Soviets for that matter. Anything else you have no clue about? and it's not like Marx was German, then British....
You certainly don't have to be a refugee to fall into that category

@Loulou: Agree, but I think "refugees" (notice the quotation marks; I think many of the so-called refugees are actually economical immigrants who give a bad name to the true refugees) belong in that category.
@Cierzo: Yes it's a horrible, messy affair...I say don't bomb people to begin with!!

Maybe not all of them but certainly 95%
In Holland only 3% from all who came, got the official refuge status after the investigation of their back ground, that says enough.

@kingkyrie: That's why I wrote "refugees". Most of them are not true refugees, they do not come from war zones, and their attitude gives a bad name to those who actually seek for refuge.

But the word sounds more moving than immigrant

@Cierzo: Only an other two billion Africans is waiting to try their luck too, so be prepared 😄
Cierzo · M
@kingkyrie: It is their right, and our right and duty should be to be sensible and not allow it
Cierzo · M
@Burnley123: Why not? Which part of the definition they do not match?

@Cierzo: Immigrants come from all different class backgrounds, have different political views and serve different class purposes (in a Marxist sesne). The argument that they are without political conscience is without foundation.

Marx himself would no doubt point to the ideologies against immigrants as dividing the proletariat on national interests, against class interests.
Cierzo · M
@Burnley123: One of the reasons why I don't believe in Marxist solutions is because he is oblivious to the concept of nation. But his analysis of reality (the existence of class struggle) is accurate for me.

I am not talking about all immigrants in my poat, I mean especifically the thousands that have come to Europe in the last 3-4 years under the (very often misused) label of refugees. Most of them live on welfare, or take jobs with very low salaries, not realising the conaequences of such behaviour for the whole working class.

In both cases, either the national worker must accept a lower salary too, or sees welfare reduced too, with the consequence that in many cases those who perceive it must also take jobs with low salaries (German minijobs come to my mind now) to survive. In any case, working class suffers the consequences and employers profit from the situation. That's why I use the word 'lumpenproletariat'.
