Is America still moving in a radical right direction?

Given the narrowness of the victory and the 'centrism' of the Biden campaign, it seems the case to me.

A landslide Biden win would have seen a GOP war on whether to stick with right populism. As it is, the Republicans are disincentivized to move away from the Trump legacy. I think the next Republican nominee will be the person closest to Trump and might even be the man himself if he stays out of jail.

It is too early to think about what might happen down the road, when Trump hasn't even conceded, and there could still be massive violence (I hope not). I will say that a politician like Ted Cruz is just as evil as Donald Trump, but is far more calculating and devious. He's already running for 2024.

The Democrats will have to come to grips with the fact that a significant portion of the US population has no problem whatsoever with racism and white supremacy, cruelty to immigrants, and autocratic leaders who lie to them. I want to see how Biden handles the job of president. I suspect he will do as good a job as possible given the circumstances.
A lot of people seem to think that this election was the cure for the worst of the country's problems. Those problems are still there, and they'll be there for quite some time. We can't wait around for someone to save us. We have to take care of that ourselves. Some of the people who are often blamed for starting the fire, usually are just adding fuel to it. Removing those people won't stop the fire, but I will agree that's it's a step in the right direction.

Still too early to know what'll happen next, IMO.

In my opinion, this was the best possible outcome. Trump lost, but Biden far underperformed expectations. I won't hold my breath but I really hope that this demonstrates to the democratic establishment that they won office almost entirely on anti-Trump sentiment, and that if they wanna avoid a repeat of what happened in 2016, they need to start serving their base, and stop running towards the center.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick on the topic of Biden underperforming, it is worth noting that Donald Trump had a record vote. He lost with more votes than the previous record holding Victor and Biden still beat that.

On the democratic takeaway, lot of them are blaming the left on losing their congressional races (despite the more left among them managing to win quite a bit).

@Burnley123 Hence why I say I won't hold my breath. They always take the exact wrong lessons from this shit. Had Biden lost the election, they would not have come to the realization that they need to embrace the platform that their constituents want them to. They'd have said "Fuck, we need to run even MORE to the right."
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@ViciDraco I know. They'll always blame the left flank of the party. I always think of Bill Mahr in 2016 when the PCCC said over and over and over "Don't run Clinton, she's a weak candidate and she'll lose" and then she lost and Mahr was all like "What the fuck this is your fault" even though WE WARNED YOU NOT TO DO IT.

Well I think there is real truth to the saying 'nice guys finish last', so given that, this country is fucked, because 70+ million choose a piece of shit rotten fuck over the nice guy..

5+ million votes more than Trump is a landslide and outright rejection of Trumpism.

The down ballot story is different, it it points to a move closer to the center, not extreme right.

Disinsensitivized? Not an actual word, but it's a mouthful. They could be DESENSITIZED and/or experience a DISINCENTIVE. When in doubt, Google is your friend.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@RedBaron The word he was trying to use is disincentivize which is the opposite of incentivize. It's synonymous with something like discourage.

@BlueMetalChick OK, thanks.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I'll just say this. Trump won Florida. But Florida also voted for 15/he minimum wage.

We seem to have a fascination with right wing politicians, but policies from the left still see enormous popularity.

@ViciDraco Mefia framing and the culture war. Tch.

No. It's more Liberal than Conservative now.
