My question on the state of this country after John Lewis passes away

When I got up this morning, I looked at CNN, and they were doing a story on Lewis and his history. I switched to MSNBC and it was the same with them, a history of John Lewis. I then went to FOX and Neil Cavuto was talking about a congressional seat opening up and could they get a republican in that seat.
At first I was disgusted with Fox, but then I started wondering, if say, Mitch McConnell were to suddenly die, I'm sure Fox would spend a lot of time talking about McConnell, but would CNN and MSNBC pay tribute to him?
Is the country so divided now, that if someone in the opposition party dies, you either ignore it or God forbid, rejoice in someone's death?

:) Cronkite was born in St Joe. Missouri, and spent much of his early years working in Kansas City. He met his wife here and considered Kansas City his home; and is now buried in one of the local cemeteries.

Kansas City at the time was run by the corrupt Tom Pendergast machine. For a glimpse at how corrupt, go investigate why Kansas City, still today, lacks home rule over its own police department.

In Cronkite's own memoirs, he joked about how he voted for Tom's man multiple times, in the same day.

Corruption doesn't exist in a vacuum. It needs the support of the news industry.

The Republicans think it’s ok for the citizens of DC to not have voting rights in Congress.

No one seems to care about humanity.
No one seems to care about what the people want.
No one seems to care.

We can do better than this.

RIP John Lewis.

@Heartlander Most of DC should be split between the two states.

@JoeyFoxx

For the time being, why not just back up and talk about why Puerto Rico isn't a state.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Heartlander better idea. You create a post and we can discuss it there.

I mentioned DC only with regards to recent arguments to block it from having full voting rights as it pertains to the discussion around the passing of John Lewis.

We are WAY off topic now. I’m more than willing to discuss this elsewhere.

The Democrats have class and yes, they would be commenting on McConnell. Republicans are anticipating the death of Ruth Ginsberg.....so they can fill her seat with another swamp critter of Trump's choosing.

@canusernamebemyusername If I send either link to my inlaws and you don't hear from me ever again.....take a guess at what happened. lol

Christians don't like cults, but a lot of them believe everything their pastor tells them. Not me, I've seen too many preachers who turned out to be con men. Swaggart, Jimmy Baker come to mind.
@JeanAnna Along with Jerry Falwell, Franklin Graham, Oral Roberts, Joel Osteen and many others. But I guess the God business has been good for them financially.
@JeanAnna Yeah I'm learning cult is a mentality/set of behaviors rather than something religious.
And stay safe:( Something I've been using lately from islamic/middle eastern culture is saying peace be with you. Cause the world Def needs more peace. I like religions even though I'm not myself. But there are many good things like that saying that are good.

John Lewis was a great selfless American. McConnel is not that. A better similar comparison would be McCain

Trump went golfing!! 🤷‍♀️
@Harriet03 That's what Trump does. He will be upset that someone else is getting the attention today and not him.

OK, I get what you're saying, but there are no examples of a conservative politician, and the liberal media making his replacement the primary issue. Nothing that I can think of.

In the here and now, this is what we're dealing with.
@windinhishair I really hope you're wrong, regarding Ginsberg, but I'm afraid you may be right.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@independentone There are several people here on SW who have been openly praying for her death for a long time. I've blocked most of them.
@windinhishair Yeah, I know, they also pray California will fall off in the ocean. Most of them are just jealous they can't earn a decent living and have to live in one of the trailer park states.

Funny, Fox has been talking about John Lewis almost non stop all day...yes paying tribute to the Civil Rights Icon. Maybe if you watched more than 30 seconds you would have seen some of it.
Yes they do also cover the Covid Pandemic, RBG's returning cancer, civil unrest and friction between Federal and City authorities out West too.

I can't tell you if CNN and MSNBC would pay tribute if McConnell were to die, but Fox certainly has been paying tribute to Mr. Lewis. Including pieces that they have been working on for some time....video of past speeches, his beginnings in the civil rights movement, his awards and the words of those who worked with and respected him from both sides of the aisle. Lewis didn't suddenly die, this has been the expected outcome of his long battle with pancreatic cancer.

It is disingenuous and misleading to suggest that Fox hasn't honored or been honoring him.
@bowman81 Good, I'm glad to hear that, I don't watch Fox much because I don't agree with their right wing agenda, same with MSNBC, they lean too far left for me.
I only had Fox on for a couple minutes and last night saw Sucker Carlson talking about Kanye while other networks were covering Lewis and again this morning when Cavuto was wondering how to get a republican in Lewis's seat.
@bowman81 When John McCain passed away, there was so much coverage and expressions of respect by “liberal” news organizations that conservatives actually made fun of them. And a few prominent conservatives mistook John Lewis for the late Elijah Cummings—that’s the measure of regard they had for him. 😞

McConnell is a fascist collaborator, not someone who deserves any respect. I look forward to spitting on his grave.
I saw a bit of a tribute on Fox to Lewis and I'll bet CNN and even MSNBC will do the same thing for McConnell when he passes.

I dislike Fox, but it's there to make money and if it thinks viewers wants to see something, it'll show it, especially on a Saturday morning once Trump is on the Golf course.

One was a civil rights icon and the other a senator. I don't see them in the same league, except both in politics.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@independentone Even fewer people live in Vermont.

Wyoming and Montana have governors, legislative bodies, counties, towns. Give DC state status and the next step will be for heavily populated states to try to break into smaller states.

Hmmm???? I tried to delete this entry so I could move it to the right place and I can't find a delete button? Is this something new?

To answer your question, yes.
