"The mainstream media consumer is inundated with a firehose of falsehoods to the point where he eventually gives up trying to separate fact from fiction. Out of sheer exhaustion he accepts the desired conclusion against his better instincts..."

- Robert Bridge

It's nonsense. The "mainstream media," whatever that is, doesn't make people lazy. They work extraordinarily hard to get it right.
But out of curiosity, did you take a second to look in to Robert Bridge?
Do you know who he is? Do you know he was the former editor of Moscow News and contributes to RT...the state run media arm of Russia?
SURE hope you were posting this as an example of subtle manipulation.

@Ynotisay Making so many assumptions is never good. You're bound to be wrong a lot.
I appreciate your opinion though. After all, I did ask for it.
Ynotisay · M
@Wraithorn Well, you actually did ask for it. When you start a post with "What do you think..." that's what happens. People tell you what they think.

And I think, and am right, that you had no idea that Bridge is a Russian propagandist.

But now you do. So there's that.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@Ynotisay Right....of course...🙄
I think we all have a responsibility - to ourselves - to go to various news outlets to ascertain fact from fiction. Stop being so lazy. Would it be nice to be able to go to one news outlet and trust their reporting? Yes. However, many news outlets have found a way to make their money NOT by reporting the truth (which at times can be boring) but rather to feed our emotional/primitive lizard brains with hyperbole. For some it is much easier to accept hyperbole than to search for the truth - it's like eating fast food rather than cooking a well balanced meal.

Which may account for America's obesity problem.

@splishsplash 'Fat , drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.'
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@splishsplash Nicely said. Diplomatic and true.

I suppose sometimes that’s the case. Mostly I just feel disheartened. Everyone has an agenda, and everything can be spun to suit one. I just want facts. All of them. Good and bad. I don’t even know if it’s possible to find that anywhere as it seems people side with whatever source shares their agenda and call everything else fake news. I’m not sure there’s any such thing as real news anymore. 🤷‍♀️
Ynotisay · M
@JustNik There's countless outlets out there that deliver fact based reporting. If people don't like that facts that's on them. I'd suggesting bookmarking the Associated Press wire service feed. It's hard news and EVERY piece they put out is vetted up, down and sideways.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Ynotisay Reuters and the BBC too. It's really not that hard to find unadulterated news if you try.
Ynotisay · M
@RodionRomanovitch You're right. They both do a good job.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
Substitute 'non-mainstream media' instead and you're on the money.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@RodionRomanovitch I like to keep an eye on many. Reuters is good ,yes. I won't give them all my trust though.

@Wraithorn The Chinese have a very good saying ; " Don't believe anything until your government denies it." 🧐
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@RodionRomanovitch Lol. Respec' to the Chinese.

The mainstream media in the USA is either liberal or conservative..
There are no non biased main stream news sources left..
And all media is now inflammatory and sensationalist by design..

There was a time when we didn't need to fact check everything in the news for accuracy and context..
Ynotisay · M
@SW-User Sorry but I just don't think that's true. As a matter of fact, I contend that there's way more 'truthful' media today than in the past. Competition has made that so. It was much easier to control messaging in the "good 'ol days." Today writers are really under the gun to get it right because they know if they don't it will be exposed.
The difference today is that you have to weed out the nonsense and understand where facts start and opinion begins. But given that you mentioned fact checking I have a feeling you know that already.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Most but I like to check in every once in awhile to see how many lies are being spun or stories omitted that should be told.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti Fair enough. The best way to defeat your enemy is to know them and all that.
I took another course. I turned off the lie conduit.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@Mamapolo2016 Good for you. Don't let them brainwash you.
