Do you agree with the death penalty and should executions be public?

No. If even one innocent person is put to death that's shameful. Killing isn't a spectacle either

@BeefySenpie Well said.
@Cmstars Thank you miss 😊

@Greenbare I never knew putting a word in all caps inverted it's meaning. Thanks for teaching me something.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Greenbare Move to China, you’d obviously be more comfortable there.
Pfuzylogic · M
The death penalty is racist in application especially in the states that use it now.
Everyone knows that the more money you have the more “justice” you get.
I am surprised that our current leader that has been on WWE hasn’t made executions public yet. He likes “reality show” sensationalism.
I think the death penalty is an abomination.

If I am murdered, my friends and family have instructions to argue against the death penalty at sentencing.

I have similar instructions from members of my faith community.

Yes, and it should be drawn out and painful, not quick and painless. Murderers, rapists, pedophiles, etc. who thrive upon destroying the humanity of others deserve no mercy nor humane treatment...

a would be rapist would be far less likely to carry through their criminal intent upon witnessing a convicted rapist being castrated and left to bleed out in agony on display for all to see...
OggggO · 36-40, M
@wildbill83 Actually, they'd just be far less likely to let their victim live.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
No I don’t and I believe most countries have abolished it.
OggggO · 36-40, M
The death penalty gives society nothing. It doesn't return what has been lost and it demonstrably fails as a deterrent. It's barbaric and has no place in a just system of laws.
Of course it does in the “literal” sense. I’m just saying keeping a serial killer in prison for life? What for ? They now don’t have a life. And I’d have to do some reach on cost to execute. I’ve never known i t to be more expensive. @OggggO
I was trying to make the point that it’s not barbaric. Keeping criminals locked up like animals is barbaric. Further , I would not be able to subdue someone like Charles Manson or Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy got away with it for so long because he blended in. @OggggO
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Spoiledbrat Yes, it is more expensive to execute someone than keep them in prison for life - due to the costs of the mandatory appeals process.

And as to why we have one - it’s because we’re not China, believe in something called due process, and want to cross every t and dot every i before doing something nobody can take back.
For child molesters it should be public. And they all should die.
Elessar · 26-30, M
I don't long for a cultural regression, so no.
Scubaguy027 · 46-50, M
Death penalty as a whole I agree with. Public executions I say no. I do have compassion for the condemned's family. Take someone like John Wayne Gacy, his wife and little girls suffered enough. I could not imagine if I was a piece of shit like him what it would do to my kids if they ever saw that.
That’s what I meant to say. Yes and no. @Scubaguy027

Is this question for Saudi citizens? They do carry out executions in public, and crowds gather to watch. Typically, they behead people.

I am from the US. I voted against the death penalty, last time it was on the ballot in my state.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Yes and No. I dont see any deterrent value in the death penalty. But there are criminals who really should never be allowed near decent people, and they should be permanently and painlessly removed from society.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
Miram · 31-35, F
It depends on how effective and just is the system..

You have to be very fucked up to agree with it ,in countries like Saudi Arabia.

There is no point in making it public.
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
Yes The death penalty is certainly justified in some cases.
NO. It should never be public. If those affected by the capital crime wish to witness it they should have a private viewing
Cmstars · 22-25, F
Yes.. it’s a good deterrent
@OggggO I don’t give a fuck what you think?
I answered a Q with MY OPINION asshole..
OggggO · 36-40, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout If you don't want replies, don't make public posts on social media.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Oh no, someone had an opinion about your opinion, hold the presses, you’re such a victim.

Consider industrialized nations with the death penalty and without. Then look at their crime and incarceration rates. Suddenly that deterrent doesn’t seem like it’s doing a lot of deterring.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
If executions were public, we'd probably stop doing them.

I'm fine with the death penalty, but it should be done privately

OggggO · 36-40, M
@callis40 Secret executions? What could possibly go wrong!
Allelse · 36-40, M
Oh hell yeah!!! I think they should bring back public hangings. Not that they deter crime or anything, no, no, no. But it'd be grand to watch!
Zoeoz · 26-30, F
I think there should be fewer cases of capital punishment, though maybe not eliminated entirely
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
Put them on tv, sell advertising, and charge the estate for the electricity used.

Not really. Not on any moral grounds really. Mostly on the fact I don't trust the system. There are way to many mistrials that result in wrongful convictions. It's staggering how many. SO because of that I am against it. If we were somehow able to magically create a system that got right all or even to a high 90s percentage then I would be fine with it. Though I think either the victim or a member of the victims family should carry it out if they were to seek it.

But is killing an actual rapist, unprovoked murderer, slaver, or molester wrong or of any consequence? No, not at all. They deserve it and we don't deserve to accomodate them in any way.
