How do you handle people on the other side that you like?

I can think of one or two people here whom I honestly like - but when they get on the subject of politics, they sound crazy (to me, anyway.) If you’re in a similar situation, how do you handle it?

I just ignore the most outrageous statements, and respond only to non-political posts.

Sometimes you just have to agree to disagree. I'm sure your position seems just as crazy and outrageous to them. Don't cave, but you don't have to engage in blood in the water diatribes either.

As long as I believe the other person believes in the country and wants to better it, we are just arguing methods, not principles. That is not a deal breaker.

I've been avoiding talking about politics for a while now, because there are some people I genuinely like who are on the other side of the political aisle. Occasionally I have slipped up and blurted out something, but it's been a while now.

I just ignore any political posts or comments that I see from them, just quietly shake my head and talk with them about something else. It's clear that neither of us is going to change the other's mind, so it's a waste of time and energy to debate political issues with some people. And I would really hate to lose a friendship because of it.

So I guess I handle it in much the same way you do. ☺
Depends. I know I can get a little crazy myself, and if we can laugh about it and still disagree, it's fun as long as neither of us takes themselves too seriously.

Having said that, I've been blocked before and will be again, i'm sure. It only hurts when I think it's personal or my fault.

I do not go out of my way to engage in online political debate but I will comment occasionally. I try to maintain a civil attitude but some knuckle draggers just need muted. I enjoy a good debate with friends because we do not get into name calling or ultimatums.

I'll either ignore their political comments or state any disagreements in a polite, respectful way. Most of the time, it's the former, rather than the latter.

I don’t want to talk about politics or religion so I won’t respond usually and don’t engage in convos regarding it. Just my preference.

You have to ignore some things. Noone is ever a perfect match. If they were it would make you crazy.

I do my best to stay away from politics. Even the ones on the same side as me can sound crazy.

Have your facts straight and not based emotions. Ask where and who did the facts come from and go to the source. Because there's always a sourcing. Nothing new under sun.

If I like someone then it doesn’t matter what they believe

I don't have a side, and ideologues get up my nose pretty quickly.
The worst thing is that the arguments that they put for, for or against whatever is irritating them, are all taken from biased media sources. I've yet to see one constructive argument arise!
