Should housewives be payed?

Personally i think they should. Running a house is like running a company. Long, thankless hours of taking care of other people should be rewarded..

Very true. Every job has its challenges and stress..
Appreciation goes a long way in taking away the sting.
There are those who do things not under duress, but out of a genuine sense of love and loyalty, its the only motivation they need.
If they choose to do nothing at all, perhaps they really aren't worth being with.. It would be quite unfair to the other.
And if one is an ungrateful slave-driver, the same thing applies.. NOT worth being with.
Housewives who love and are loved and where love and loyalty are their motivations are surely paid in appreciation and lavished upon by a grateful partner in ways that brings love and loyalty full circle.
Housewives should be payed, in appreciation, in love, in loyalty, just as the one working and providing from outside of the home should be equally appreciated.
Relationships are 2 way streets, sacrifice and reward to each, from each..
No matter the chosen or necessary lifestyle.
Pretty simple, it seems.

I think so. The problem with the world is that the only things that are monetizable are valued. We need to rethink the way we perceive value.

Raising kids and working for charity and helping others are all contributing to society by adding value to it, but you don't get paid for any of it. It's why universal basic income has been an idea economists have been playing around with for several decades now.

We let companies and corporations determine what's valuable and what's not, but they're motivated purely by profit. Profit shouldn't come at the expense of the people

@wildbill83 Who said anything about socialism? Simon Kuznets, a Nobel Prize winning economist, was the guy that formed the idea of GDP, the very metric that we use to measure our economy today. He said that "services of housewives and other members of the family" -direct quote, btw- should be included as part of our national economy.
Regular good D.
Being in love.
Putting her needs and wants before mine.....
What else do you want?
If that's how you see having a family just stay single and childless.

You are paid, you get paid in the gratitude of having the privilege of being there for your family in every aspect of their lives, a privilege not given to many... At times, yes it does seem to be thankless... but just the pure happiness and love received from your family is payment in itself...

@Lynb1960 👏
Only if they don't live in a community property state and they agree not to share in the assets of and the money the main income earner makes. In other words, that's dumb if they are life partners.

In community property jurisdictions they are payed. If one spouse earns $millions for running a big company and the other runs the household, they each own 50% of everything.
I worked a career in the military follow by years in the corporate world. I got laid off from my last corporate gig right after 9/11. My spouse took a job at the school district while I stayed at home with the kids playing 'House Husband" while I started an internet based business.

I kind of have a different take on it in that I believe that neither spouse should be paid but all chores/household responsibilities should be shared and you should just step up and do the household things that need doing when you see that they need doing.

If I was a wife which I’m not getting paid for sex would make me feel somewhat whorish.
