I never Hit ,I spank ,and only on the rear
I have 3 grown kids
and 3 grandkids ,,and lots of kids I have raised
all very successful and all well mannered and respectful
and not a hitter in the bunch
I have actually spanked a child ,,not my own ,in the presence of a case worker
She said I know you are not ,,I said watch me
That child is 2 ,he has been told to stay out of that diaper bag by his Mom how many times since you have been sitting here ?
My kids were not in diapers at 2 either
I swatted it on the rear ,said NO NO sternly ,and the kid did not get in the diaper bag again ,,
My Daughter is raising one ,not her own
He can be put in time out every single day ,stand in the corner
toys taken ,,made to do chores ,,and still talk back and refuse to do as he is told
A trip to visit Papaw (and his Dad is 100% on board because he see's it works)
He gets 5 swats on the rear ,through pants and underpants
and for a month he us good as gold ,then he needs to be reminded ,
His brother was the same way ,,,the middle one only needed one lesson
he has been outstanding every since
He was sat down ,,told why he was being punished as they all are
asked if its unfair ,,everyone else gets one when they don't listen
they agree its fair and we proceed ,,10 whacks is the limit for something really bad
I have been investigated 8 times by DCF ,and never any wrong doing found
I have had a complete home study and found fit to place kids with until other arrangements can be made (I have helped a lot of Moms not lose their kids )
The one that did lose her kids ,needed to ,,she was raised to be a good girl
but she loved drugs more than her kids ,one died as a result of her negligence
I tell people all the time ,the proof is in the pudding
So me kids that behave as good ,and do as well as the kids I have raised
I will take your method under advisement ,,
I do however know a Lot of Moms who now say they wish they had listened to me
You don't have to keep spanking them
Once they know you don't make threats ,there is a consequence for your actions
Even a 2 yr old thinks twice before messing with No No's
But if I see someone abuse a child ,,I may go to jail
I was abused by my Mom ,disciplined by my Grandma ,,,I know the difference

Against. Compliance through fear won't make children responsible citizens in the future, it might make them comply when there's fear and potentially runs the risk of getting out of control when the parent is angry and uses the hitting as an outlet for their anger rather what they initially intended to be a controlled disciplinary mechanism.

My kids and Grandkids love and respect me ,and they actually got very few spankings ,,
My step grandson's teacher calls me the miracle worker
We got the kids with special needs hitting ,spitting ,head butting ,scratching
sitting in the floor in class and pitching a fit because he did not want to go outside with the rest of the class ,,
He is 18 now ,back with his Mom who treats him like a retard ,,like a helpless baby ,,plays with lego's all day and watch's Cars ,the movie
With us he was in a lot of regular classes ,helped with the class
never hit anyone else again ,and when he would not listen ,they just called me and I spoke to him over the phone ,he complied ,,
He listens to me ,,,I punished him and his brother ,,,in 3 days I was able to get them to do more than anyone had ever been able to get them to do
I used to be a client at a vocational rehabilitation center ,I know what a real disability is compared to bad behavior ,,never being told no because at one point in your life you had a seizure ,,in 5 yrs ,I never seen him have 1 he was not faking it (there are ways to tell if it is a seizure or not ,,when having a seizure ,they can't respond to pain ,like a pinch ,,)
Now that no one is there at his Moms that he respects
His Mom asked him to get off his tablet and turn off his TV and come to supper
He refused ,,so she cut his tablet off
He walked over and locked the door ,so her new husband could not come in
and proceeded to beat the crap out of her
(he tried that on his teacher and my daughter 1 time here ,and I spanked him)
I could not beg him to head butt anyone else after that
Here he does chores ,makes his bed ,rides the bus ,had a girlfriend
made all "A's" in school (he did have some special classed ,,He has OCD )
His Mom said we caused that ,
Well it is on record and we have it
His grandma locked him out of the house and called the law on him and the younger brother ,,,He head butted her and the younger one beat her with a shoe
He bragged to me he would beat me with one too ,he found out he met his match
I do not agree ever with beating kids

@CoffeeFirst No I mean outcomes. Like I have a family member with a lying, stealing manipulative little prick of 10 year old. She does little to discipline him. Just tells him to sit there or go to his room. Whan he doesn't she just on it. Ask her why she doesn't just pick him up and put him in the chair and keep doing it till he complies she says " It is damaging to his "emotions" 🙄 Little baby boy needs to learn to accept and conform to his punishments she thinks. That's bullshit. He needs to learn he is just ten and he does what he is told by adults and it isn't his decisions.
The kid does whatever he wants and thinks he can question and talk down to adults. When he doesn't get his way or someone says something he doesn't like, he cries. Cries and wines like he is two at least three times a day. But ask her, Emtional intelligence and teaching him it is okay to cry is more important then behaving and dsicipline. The world is going to eat him alive someday and THAT is child abuse.
They say it is harmful because it knocks them down a peg and damages their emotions and sensitivity. Well you know what? We are comming up with these overly sensitive and emotional basket cases with no discipline and no tolerance to bad feelings. That's much more harmful but these pseudo scientist psychologist want to act like being sensitive and fluffy is the most important. We are raisding selfish weaklings who can't take nothing and look at what's going on. Being highly emotional and passive is not a solid virtue worth nurturing.

@MethDozer Yeah, I would agree that your family member and her child need some help. I can see where you are coming from and it sounds frustrating to watch. I don't think spanking would be a good solution, though. I think they should get into therapy ASAP with a counselor who specializes in children and parents who have that dynamic.
