Do politicians become fckwits after they get into the system or are only fckwits attracted to becoming politicians?

Wraithorn · 51-55, M
It seems that even if someone enters politics with good intentions they eventually end up being sidetracked into doing what is best for the party rather than what is best for the people who voted for them.
@Wraithorn Yeah I think that's a good point

Do you remember that television show, American Idol? I used to watch it about 10 years ago. One of the finalists, who was such a good singer, went on to become a politician, and in a candid moment during an interview afterward, he said that he was shocked to learn that it's ALL about fundraising. You have to meet people who have a LOT of money, and then you have to promise them you will do what they want you to do, and then they will donate to your campaign. It's all about satisfying the big money donors first. THEN you can, if you wish, satisfy your constituents.

I also met a candidate in person, by accident, in my hometown, and I have never seen such a phony smile on a human being in my entire life. Apparently he thought that a Florida tan, good looks, a nice suit, and a phony smile were the key to success. It was so off-putting I remember it 10 years later.
@4meAndyou That is sad but true

A decent politician is nearly, but not quite as common as rocking-horse poo...
F*ckwits, however, abound in droves...

Usually the f*ckwit is quite strong in those pursuing such an endeavour in order to become ever more f*ck-witted.

It's all about getting your nose in the trough!!
@Harriet03 True that

Power tends to corrupt.
@hamsterdance It does indeed

The latter.
YIKES! A true "chicken or egg" conundrum!

Given the end result, does it really matter, though?
@SWisGoingWoke I'm just curious

Some are awful before entering politics but as to the others the system seems to crush the good out of so many
I feel the former. Although there are examples of both theories at work.
mostly the latter...and the few good ones either get burned out or bribed into submission..

Pretty sure you have to be a fckwit to become a politician
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
🙄
It depends on the person
and not all politicians are fckwits or become one.
@Kwek00 99.99999% of them are though.
