Anyone else think this is poor service? My television has had sound and picture cutting out badly since Tuesday night.

This is the second time I have had this issue. A repairman came to my apartment two weeks ago, and got things working reasonably well.

On Wednesday of last week I called to report the continuing problem, and although they tried resetting my tv from their office, that did not work. They made a "first available" appointment for a repair technician to come out Friday afternoon. Then my internet connection also started disconnecting randomly.

On Thursday, the cable company (Xfinity) computer called me and told me the problem was indentified outside my house, on one of the wires, and gave me the option of cancelling my service appointment (which I did NOT do). So obviously the cable company has known the location of the problem since Thursday.

On Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. a goofy looking guy showed up at my apartment (the repairman, supposedly) stating that that my entire building was having problems. He did absolutely nothing but tell me ALL the apartments he had to visit (to give them the bad news?), and told me that a repairman would fix the problem. (I thought HE was supposed to do that?)

I asked him how long it might be, and he told me probably within 24 hours, but that it could be as long as two days, and not to worry, because the line technicians work 24/7.

I can tell you that they have not been working HERE 24/7. It is mid-morning on Saturday and nothing is fixed.

Am I being silly to expect that if the company has known about this since Thursday and sent a technician on Friday the problem should already have been fixed? I know...silly me.

Xfinity/Comcast sucks. They have a hugely incompetent management issue. From my experience with them, you will get the issue fixed when you are able to get through to a supervisor who gives a crap.

@SW-User It's a half hour since I wrote out my frustration, and the service has now been repaired. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it will stay that way, because it has not in the past.

It's the best service you can expect under a monopoly.
(I have never lived anywhere, including New England, where there was more than one cable company available to choose from in any given area)

You are not being silly in expecting better service, however you are getting better service than Xfinity has a reputation for delivering. All cable companies are glad to take your money and seem indifferent to whether or not the customer gets what they paid for.

Here, if you are without utility service for 24 hrs. the companies must not charge and more than 48 they pay an additional penalty, payable to the customer. I don't think that applies to cable but it should. It would provide them with an incentive to get things fixed in a timely manner.

@bowman81 Yes, last month they credited me $1.69 for one day without tv service.

People are incompetent

It’s poor service because they haven’t kept you informed well on the progress of the repairs. If they value you as a customer they aren’t showing it.

Gee sounds like a pickle

@SW-User We had Comcast (briefly) when I owned a private home and lived with the ex. The service digitized constantly, and we called about it constantly. When Verizon became available we jumped on it. The week AFTER we switched to Verizon, Comcast finally showed up and replaced the improper cable they had going from our house to the street.

@4meAndyou When cable first became popular the company would grease the palms of local mayors and councilmen who would only allow one cable company in the city. They purchased a monopoly with their bribes. The local pols loved it, the competing companies vying for the contract. You can imagine the service the people got then. Eventually a few went to jail and laws were passed opening up competition. Better but still not perfect. Your situation with apartment building/private mobile parks etc. are just a continuation of the same policies on a smaller scale.

@bowman81 I am sure salesmen went around offering these packages and stating that if they became exclusive to the park/building they would get permanent discount rates.
