I Have a Messed Up Sleep Schedule

When I lived at home, I could sleep on any couch or in any soft chair or a regular bed of any kind. When I moved from there to my first apartment, a sweet (now deceased) neighbor sold me her bedframe and bought me a new boxspring and mattress. I lived on that for the next nine years.

Necessity caused me to move again. Now I am in a larger-size studio apartment. It is too small to accommodate a regular fold-out couch, so my charming brother bought me a futon (small version of one) to sleep on. I was not thrilled with the idea, but he said, "You'll get used to it."

I hate this thing. It has been one week, and I can't sleep worth a tinker's damn on it. The spine built into the frame pokes my human spine ever time I roll over. Then I feel like I am rolling into a fabric valley and have to struggle to get straight again. This wakes me up all night long and disturbs my sleep. I get up feeling tired, lousy, and generally in a bad mood. Sitting up is impossible - my knees are bad enough on their OWN. I have taken to getting up in the morning with a chair back alongside the outer edge to rise.

I got rid of the damn screaming answering machine (but he brought it over here and it's sitting on the closet shelf and I asked him to THROW IT AWAY when I moved) and I am tempted to push this futon out the window (and I live on the fourth floor) into the courtyard below.

The first time I sat on this monstrosity and he asked how I liked it, I told him I didn't - my knees were nearly in my chin. He said oh-you-'ll-get-used-to-it.
@MaryJanine That makes me angry again against your brother 😡 He didn´t seem to really care about how you feel. If you say "You don´t like it´" why the hell does he think, he knows it better than you??? is it his body that hurts and suffers? Is it him who can't get no real sleep? What is so hard about helping you find a good bed? One that fits YOU and not him??? YOu are his sister!!! Damn it! If I were there, I would build you the bed you need and which one is good for you.

@RobinPhoenix Please...calm down, kleiner Bruder. David said the same thing. He said he had a similar experience at a friend's house. He told me, in so many words, "It's not you." He and I are working together to find me a twin box spring and mattress ( I have the pillows) and a frame.

You and Michael are too loving to me. Between you two and David, I am nothing but one spoiled person.

Futons are usually really comfortable. But sounds like u need a normal bed

@smileylovesgaming A normal bed or else a fold-out couch. The last thing I slept on that wasn't a bed was a queen-sized full couch. While I don't need something quite that size, I got a wonderful night's sleep on it. If I can't have a regular bed, at least get me a half-size one that I can store the pillows and covers underneath in the daytime or if the landlord comes around. It's a pain in the you-know-where to collect the pillows and blankets and hide them in plain sight and then reverse the procedure at night.
