Have you ever had an elevator incident?

I was riding the elevator at work and it started making these weird noises and then accelerated and started jumping up and down quickly. It would stop and the doors would open but I was in-between floors with no way out. I rang the emergency bell and this went on for about 10 minutes. The HR lady at work heard me yelling out for help. Eventually it stopped and opened on my floor and I jumped out. This happened a year ago. I work on the 5th floor of a building and I will not take that elevator again. I thought of this today they are sending messages now to everyone don't use the elevator it's not safe it needs to be worked on. Now every time I get in an elevator I think of that incident. Could have been a lot worse.

I have only gotten stuck in an elevator once, bit that was because no one told me that I had to use my access fob on the elevator on holidays. I was only stuck for 10 minutes. Nothing as terrifying as yoir experience though! I have a very irrational fear of them. Your experience would make me a stair taker for life.

My elevator incident was that a voice came out of nowhere--some man wanted to talk to Cynthia or whatever the name was--he did not believe me that his voice was coming out of the elevator. His girlfriend's phone number must have been almost the same as the emergency phone on the elevator.
That is so scary. I don’t love elevators. I once chose another doctor because the previous one’s office was on the tenth floor in an old, old building. The elevator felt like a box being pulled up by a rope. 😳

A lift i was in stopped between floors in a hotel many years ago, i was in a blind panic. I haven't used one since.

Thank God I have never had that happen. I am happy nothing happened to you.
I got stuck in one in Kiev, Ukraine, for about an hour. The person outside the elevator told us not to move about too much or it might fall. That helped 🤔

@ostfuidctyvm Yikes, that inspires confidence

Yes. I was in elevators that got stuck twice. Once, we had to climb out between floors.

Sounds like a scene out of a horror flick. Glad you are ok

I think i'd never get on an elevator again. I would of had a stroke

@Bexsy Yes it was unreal. I thought I am going to die in this thing. It's not an old building either, just I guess a crappy build.
@SlippingAway my work elevators crapped out couple years ago. I take stairs mostly now unless carrying a lot of things. company opted out the other fixes that were suggested, so I don't trust it.

I don't blame you, so glad it turned out ok though

I've been in old NYC elevators that I was certain would kill me.
That's when you climb out through the hatch in the ceiling and climb the cables. Every action movie fan knows this.
@SlippingAway Suggest a company training day.

@NudasPriest That's one I might actually learn something from
@SlippingAway There was that one movie though, where the guy is crawling out the elevator doors when the elevator starts moving again, he doesn't quite make it all the way out. Well, half of him does.
Some rat is chewing on the wires wondering what all the noise is about.
