I hate working in red country

Today, I had to deal with a coworker who was trying to get me to agree to his muslim phobia. He didn't think I'd know why we have people who wash their feet in the sinks at work. He seemed surprised I did. I said the employer should do something to accomodate that. He said they were talking about getting tubs that can be cleaned out. That seemed readonable to me.

I said it's a shame they can't get their own space to at least spend time in prayer. Then my old man coworker chimed in, "Where does it end? You accomodate them and everyone else is going to want accommodations."

I said, "Well, yeah. Some religions have certain rituals that must be met. If work gets inbetween that, then the employer should be reasonable."

The other coworker said that in order to leave the floor to pray, the employee has to bring in a written note from their Iman to do so. I think that is ridiculous.

Then the other coworker started complaining about how they are building a mosque in town. I said that was good. They should if Muslims aren't represented in the community. He continued to complain how the county had used eminent domain for some apartments and a school, then sold the remaining land to the church to build. I said I'm not for eminent domain just for a church of any kind, but it sounds like the county made the most out of the land they had left.

In the end, I just felt completely baited into trying to hate Muslims. I just don't see any value in that. Bigotry is not a good look.

Are you still allowed to keep your lunches in the fridge at work ? They usually ask for no pork at their work site as their next accommodation (after paid time off during the work day to pray ).

@AthrillatheHunt We don't have any such restrictions, but that is more than likely because we have a very diverse workplace of numerous cultures.
Written letter from an Imam is definitely ridiculous but huge respect for not participating in it, that's not all that common these days
