I found it easy to stop when my company made me the offer I couldn’t refuse a few years ago. I haven’t missed it a bit.

You are allowed to want to stop but to actually stop you must consider how to support yourself.
I got to the stage where I was sick of working 10 hours a day, 5 days a week rising at 4am every morning.
One day my new boss pissed me off one too many times.
I thought about the situation, realised I had enough savings to last quite a few years so I told him I was sick of his methods, - bullying and intimidation and I resign, effective immediately.
Best thing I ever done. No more having to rise at 4am.
I have retired 4 years early.

@Casheyane The reality is that to get that, one has to take stock of where we are at.
Do we want to continue down the same path?
Are we able to extricate ourselves from the current situation?
If the answer is no then unfortunately we must keep moving forward with what we have.
You are not in position to drop everything and start again.

You realize how unhealthy it is to your body or your body will stop you. Also, if you can put a cap on hours, it's still good, the problem is when you have a particular problem to solve and won't take a break before you solve it, then hours drag to 10, 12...another day, weekend etc.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@CrazyMusicLover I draw the line on weekends. But the time spent on work still feels too much, I feel I barely get to live.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
I work four twelve-hour days, Wednesday through Saturday. It's not like I like working so many hours, but the cost of living is getting ridiculous. I mean look at the prices at the grocery store. God damn. I want a different job, but this pays so well and I've got bills to pay.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
@Casheyane Me and I have 50/50 custody of my kids.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@HowtoDestroyAngels You support them then? Education and stuff? Trying to be decent in this world requires a price. True indeed.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
@Casheyane My son just graduated and he's got a scholarship and an apprenticeship, but I have to pay child support till he's done with school. My daughter is only twelve, and I pay for her too and have at least six years to go. But yes, I pay for their other stuff as well. They are my kids to and I'll be damned if I don't take care of them.

It's amazing how little I am prepared to spend when I consider what working is really like.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@Roundandroundwego How do you apply that? Living simply and spending like a minimalist? Genuine question.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@Casheyane I live in the camper. No rent. No way.

I don’t, that life isn’t for me.
BrandNewMan · M
You need to feel the need to work enough to be able to earn your own damn way in life. You don't have the right to coast and put that weight on others.
Beyond that .. it all comes down to what you are willing to do for what you want.

@BrandNewMan I made the choice to carry the weights of others when we lost the one who used to carry all of us. Couldn't be a child since then.

@Casheyane Ah. I've been pulling that load, mostly alone, for longer than you've been alive. Its tougher these days .. no doubt.
Find what ways you can to take back as much time /control as possible. HQ move made my commute unbearable, went full time from home over 10 yrs ago. Game changer for me. No commute stress / expense and 2 hrs of my day back x 5. Throw a load of laundry in, run dishwasher or walk the dogs at lunch, etc.
Hope you find something that helps.

@BrandNewMan How did you survive?
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Your hardwired for that. Takes awhile to come down from it.
