So, I blew up the world where I work...

I made a major mistake at work today and entered a formula wrong into a spreadsheet that caused the project team I am on to go down the wrong track while we are working on a deadline. As we were going through a final review to start writing up our analysis, everyone in the conference room was chatting away and I was scanning through my spreadsheet and saw the error. Not only was the formula wrong, but it was circular so I should have caught it... easily. Tbh, I'm surprised I'm still working there after that; I'm sure my manager will hear about it. I will probably just tell her.

Everyone, seemed pissed, but didn't seem to blame me outright. At least I caught it in time, but it threw the meeting off, so there was all that wasted time. Everyone just went back to their desks and we agreed to meet again later this week.

I suppose I could have blamed it on the "previous administration" or denied the error like a maga-nut-crony. That seems to work for them. Even though I shared the spreadsheet with the full project team 2 weeks ago for review and apparently no one actually looked at it, I just called out the error as my own and spent the rest of the afternoon feeling like I blew up the world. But I did fix the problem and suggested we get back together for a final review and write-up.

Maybe I'm not cut out for this work.
