It is a good question. If you had asked me 15 years ago it would have been absolutely ! I would have looked at the local economy the areas GDP and that would have been a compelling move prompt
However I have a white collar job and I have been a mostly remote employee for about 10 years . At my current job I have only been to the office 1 time in 2 years and the job before that it was never. The job before that it was 20 ish times in 3 years.
I just need an internet connection that is fast--so no incentive to move.
But if I had a blue collar career track I would probably look at GDP of area and market saturation for that profession. For example electrician.

So I actually did this and I hated the town for a long time, years. But once I got to know people it turned around and I really like it.

It would take a pretty big salary to inspire me to move for work. I'd consider looking in nearby cities/suburbs if I wasn't too happy with where work was.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed meh, indeed, that's the thing! Ikea would be 2 hours away.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed but the salary... that would be very comfortable, so based on that and your input, if the offer is made, I'm in the yes category
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Neman1622 you can always make your home your sanctuary with the right salary.

I wouldn't want to move to any city☹️
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I'm not sure how would I get a job there because I guess I'd be rather searching in cities where I would want to move to.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLover it's industry related for me. There's only a few locations that specialize in my skill set
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Neman1622 Ah, that makes sense. If it's something that might open more doors for you then why not? At least temporarily to gain experience, literally and on the paper.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLover and exactly my thoughts. If the offer is made, I'm pretty sure I'll bite the bullet and accept

I work for a company out of state, and if they asked me to relocate, even with a package I'd likely decline.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I wouldn't move to a city if I had ANY options at all.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@ChipmunkErnie lol, that's just your personal preference. Doesn't add to the conversation at all
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Neman1622 Yup. That's life.
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
probably yes. especially if I'm hard up.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@lumberjackslam that's a good point too. Currently I'm not hard up, but I know my skillset is getting stale, and that concerns me a lot
Lilnonames · F
no ill not like the job if i dislike the city
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
@Lilnonames that's an interesting point...
