edit i found this online article about how to tell your coworker that they smell i'm laughing so hard who comes up with this shit
If you have a coworker, friend, or classmate struggling with body odor, use these steps to tell them directly and kindly.#1 Find a private space.2 Be direct and compassionate Some people get anxious when someone asks them to talk. If you see them looking nervous, it’s important to let them know you’re not upset. Instead, you’re looking out for them and want to help them.

You can do this in your next sentence: “I really care about our working relationship and your success, and I’ve noticed that you have [an odor or bad breath].”

Or, if you’re telling a friend, you could tell them, “I care about you a lot and enjoy spending time with you. I have noticed that you recently had [an odor or bad breath] and wanted to take this chance to chat with you about it.”

While being this direct may feel nerve-wracking, it’s one of the best ways to show that it isn’t that big of a deal. Spending an extra 5 minutes beating around the bush may communicate that you think it’s embarrassing.

Pro Tip: Some people will feel uncomfortable being addressed directly, especially about a sensitive topic like smell. If you know the person well and think they would not like this approach, try sending them an email instead.
the first suggestion made me bust out laughing

No write up...schedule the stinker with the rude crude unshy tell-it-like-it-is night crew. They'll have em smellin like a daisy in no time!

@FloorGenAdm LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

that's exactly what happened! xD

Just entering the workspace and saying loudly "F*ck, it really smells like a$s in here" without pointing the finger at anyone, would do the trick and be simpler and far less embarrassing than that stuff
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@Elessar I just choked on a butter cookie reading your comment 💀 one of my coworkers literally did that

They have had enough
Elessar · 26-30, M
@DeluxedEdition It was the standard procedure here when I was in school. Random guy would come in in mid-December, completely slam the window open and then yell "Not my fault if some of you only shower once every bissextile year" 😬
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@Elessar lmfao random guy was fed tf up xD

i feel his pain tho it gets annoying. like one day is okay but everyday??? come tf on

Ass? Yes. Smelling of sex, that's excusable. 😳😆

What if it's the boss that stinks?
I’d press changes 😅

If they smell like they haven't showered in 3 days and make you sick to your stomach when you're around them, write em up AND send em home with no pay.

@theoldschoola I've worked with people who didn't believe in perfumes and they stank so bad we went to management. This was managements response "well, if their culture for whatever reason doesn't believe in something, we can't say anything to them about it"

And it was basically, oh well you're gonna have to work beside them.

It's okay to smell like my ass. Thanks to my Every Man Jack body wash, my ass smells like sandalwood and other rich manly spices.

Actually, that could be a sign of mental illness, so we should check, or have a professional, check for that first.
NerdySoph · 26-30, F
I think that article nailed it .. except the last part. Sending them an email about it will not be a good way lol.
calicuz · 51-55, M
They should definitely be written up, but only on the 3rd time sending them home.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@calicuz what they should do on the second offense
Justgreg · M
Yes. And thank God I work with animals instead of people lol

Imagine saying "Hey babe, you're cute, but you stink!!"

this reminded me of some advice I received from my HR manager about resolving co-worker disputes : you should always stab an unsuspecting coworker, or do some anger management or something 🤷‍♂️
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@tenente I'm pretty sure she meant the first. the second option is too unreasonable
As a former manager, the protocol is to send them home, with a warning if it's a first offense, not a write up, to say they are to come to work bathed and wearing clean clothes/uniformed, and properly groomed. Second offense is a write up with a three day suspension. Third offense within a year is termination of employment.
@twiigss Maybe at a woke corporation, but at most places owners and management doesn't tolerate bad hygeine, specially when using cultural excuses.
twiigss · M
@NativePortlander1970 it's something you can be talked to about but I've never known anyone to be fired because they had a bad odor.
@twiigss It's in pretty much every employee handbook that's given during orientations, under personal hygeine, that employees will be terminated if not properly exercised.
