I've been working at the front desk at hotels and resorts for about 25 years now and I like it. Some of the reasons I like it.. If it's a smaller place, you have time for stuff like chit chatting with guests, or cleaning, rearranging or organizing. You can go smoke or go eat whenever you want. There aren't any specific breaks or lunch time you have to take you just do what you want when you want. At the current hotel I've been at for nine years we also do laundry so sometimes I just stand back there and work on laundry and listen to YouTube or something. To me working at hotels just feels like going to my second home and doing stuff I got to do

Working full time is definitely a transition from school. What I found was that my social life changed radically. In school, I met up with a new bunch of people every 15 weeks or so just by going to class. Working full time limited that kind of novel interaction to whenever a new person started at work.

I found that having a weekly routine helped. I did my laundry on Sunday evening. I did certain things in the evening of each weeknight. I eventually learned to separate work and personal, and didn't allow them to mingle, so I taught myself to not stress about work during my off hours, and to not take my personal problems into the workplace. (Eventually — it was really quite hard.)

I also found that I had to work harder to maintain friendships. All of my peers had jobs just like me, and a number of them were starting families, as well.

So, work life is different from school life, and it can be bad if you don't like your work or work environment. Even if it's good, it's possible to fall into a rut eventually without the built-in changes that come with school, so that's something to take into consideration, as well.
I miss having a 9 to 5 more than anything... just the whole idea of being able to clock off at the end of the shift and do my own thing until the start of my next shift.

With caring, there's none of that... its all on you 24/7.

There are still weekends. If you manage to tidy up, do the laundry, finally cook something good and fresh etc in one day, still one free day left. 😆 No, really, you'll learn to prioritize. You can still go out after work and have fun or plan a trip for weekend. It's not really full time job that sucks, it's gradually losing friends and having no one to do fun stuff with anymore because they start a family or generally don't have time or energy for anything else than slouching down on a couch, opening a can of beer and watching some TV series.

Doesn’t always suck - if you get along with your colleagues it helps a lot. There’s a social aspect that can be real nice.

I think it depends on what this job is to you; if it’s just a gig where you have no intention of staying, then don’t let it eat into your free time, and don’t let it stress you out.

Tbh you'll grow a lot more as a person and you'll pick up new skills and be in new situations. Every job teaches you something and makes you more.

It sucks. I stopped working 18 years ago and became a full time housewife and I'm still loving every minute of my freedom.
