My boss is doubling down
I work as a software developer in a startup. It’s a startup company so there’s no real architecture or SOP yet. That’s not really the issue, that’s kind of expected in a startup. The real problem is the boss.
He’s so deep inside his AI bubble. We’ve told him multiple times that we need proper architecture and structure so we can actually improve our development process, but he keeps brushing it off. He’s really into the AI trend and his mindset is basically,
“Everything is easy with AI. No need for structure. It will just make things harder. Just take a project, AI it, and finish it in a week.”
This cycle happens every week. We get berated because we didn’t finish a project in just one week. He always tells us the project is “one prompt away,” like he genuinely thinks development is that simple just because AI tools exist.
So people started leaving. As of yesterday, the 4th person left. And instead of looking at what’s happening and understanding why, he doubled down. He started sending long messages to the juniors saying, basically:
“Pick a random project from the board, and if you don’t finish it in 2 weeks (lol at least he extended it from 1 week), you’re gone.”
So yeah, I don’t think I’ll be staying in this company for long. Even if I finish this 2-week task, I’ll start looking for a new job. I don’t want to work in a company with no structure that still refuses to improve.
