This is the end.
It’s my 11th month at my current job right now, and I think it’s finally time I’m getting fired. Today, we had a Discord call where we just got absolutely cooked by our boss.
For context, I work as a software developer. I started here in July last year. The work environment is. different. Since it's a startup, there’s no real process. It’s basically just your boss giving you a vague idea, you building it, and him getting angry at you when you didn't make it exactly how he imagined it. That’s the constant loop.
Back in December, the boss split the devs up. We had 6 devs total, 3 got assigned to "Project A" and the other 3 of us got assigned to basically nothing.
The 3 devs on Project A were doing a project he actually liked, meaning they were being monitored and closely guided on what he actually wanted. Meanwhile, the three of us on Team B were just told to look at some scribbled ideas on a whiteboard and "pick what to do." By that point, we already knew we were on the "get fired" list.
Sure enough, in January, the other two devs from my whiteboard team got fired. I thought I would be next, but instead, I just became an outcast. The rest of the company was doing their main project, and I was just sitting there building random stuff I thought might be useful. My boss would constantly message me with random things he wanted, but then he’d just leave me completely alone to figure it out.
That loop lasted all the way until May. Then, my boss finally looked at my stuff and actually liked one of the projects. That prompted him to move me over to the main team's project.
The issue is, these past few weeks have been a nightmare trying to integrate with them. I don't know what they’ve built, I don't know what my ownership is, and I have no idea how they process. Today, I got on that call with my boss nagging me about my performance these past few weeks and yeah, I think my time is up.
