Sick Because of My Own Stupidity
I’m currently down with a fever.
Right after I got home from work, I already knew I was going to get one - you can just feel it when it’s coming. And surprise, I was right. The reason? Probably the damn aircon at work.
So in our office, there are two departments sharing the space: Marketing and us, the IT team. Our team leader is currently on leave, so today, the marketing TL was the one present. Now this TL has this annoying habit: he turns on both aircons. The second one, unfortunately, is directly behind my back. One aircon is already cold - two is just insane. So yeah, I was freezing the entire day.
The worst part? I was too scared to say anything. I was the only one who looked cold, and I didn’t want to be the annoying guy complaining. I was hoping the TL would at least notice me. I was clearly shivering and uncomfortable. But nope, he sat there in the corner of the room — the only spot not hit by the aircon - acting like nothing was wrong.
At around 3 PM, it started raining. And still, no one lowered the temp, turned off an aircon, or even adjusted the settings. I know for a fact others were cold too. I always notice that when this TL leaves the office, the marketing people immediately turn off that second aircon - like they’ve been waiting to breathe again. But now, since he’s been working in the same space recently, everyone’s too afraid to touch anything.
So there I was - freezing from 3 PM to 6 PM. That’s three straight hours of cold air hitting my back like a punishment. And even after I got home, my back still felt like a damn ice pack. Now I’ve got a full-on fever, and I’m lying here, sick because I stayed silent.
And yeah, I’m mad at myself for not speaking up. But I’m even more pissed that someone who clearly saw me suffering couldn’t be bothered to show basic human decency and turn the damn aircon down.
