Do you ever not hear a word someone says and just nod your head and say “yep”

I just did that when my boss said something. In my defence I couldn’t hear him over the machines and I felt too awkward to ask him to repeat it.

I tend to go for the nod and smile, sometimes it's fine and sometimes you can tell from the facial expression of the other person that it was totally inappropriate.

Yea I do this sometimes, it gets me in trouble when I miss something I was supposed to do and have no knowledge of what it was later.
