What are the boundaries that indicate of balance in personal and professional relationships?

hungryartistXoX · 18-21, F

I think it’s about knowing how much to share. Share enough to connect, but not so much that your coworkers know your dog’s favorite snack or your friends hear all about how annoying Karen from HR is. In short, it’s like a dance—find the rhythm, don’t step on toes, and enjoy the groove.

Also in my opinion, balance is good when you're separating those things in your life. I mean, dating your hot female boss might be exciting, but let’s be honest—that would be a bit uncanny 😱

My workplace divides basically into: Uniforms, Shirts, Ties, and Suits. There's different levels in the "Suits" class but I'm a uniform so I'm not really clear on how that plays out. Personal relationships generally occur within one's own class of worker and all other cross class relationships are strictly professional.

It depends on the size and nature of a business, and the history of the relationship. If there is a personal relationship it's best kept open so everyone knows about it. Like I once worked in a medium size family business (about 300 employees) where 20%+ of the staff was family. It was fine because everyone knew of the relationships and respected the bond between family members. Same for professional-client type relationships. Like Doctor-patient relationship. Like if your doctor is also your neighbor and you get friendlier service it's understandable if the relationship is public. If your doctor is also your secret lover and not your neighbor that may not work out too well.

The boundaries that you define yourself.

Everyone is different. And if you take on others boundaries, then that is something you have as well decided.

What the other person compliments. Anything with sexual undertones is the start
