If you've ever worked in a call center (or not, just try to imagine), would this bother you?

It *sounded* like I had someone on my calls almost my entire shift! At one point, I couldn't even concentrate, because all I could hear was the external noise. Generally, this "external" noise (or extra noise) means a supervisor is listening to your calls. You can hear extra noises, you know?

I know we had less people in my community today due to so many people taking off work. I understand that, but it seemed like someone was on my calls TOO FREAKING MUCH all day today.

I did look back to one of the assistant coaches while I was having difficulty thinking on a call. I mentioned how I felt like my brain wasn't working very well (laughing about it). And, I said, "And, it doesn't help that I keep hearing the background noise of someone listening to my calls! Lol! It would be one thing if I need help. If I need help dealing with a customer, please listen! But, I'm hearing it constantly today!"

She simply smiled and looked at her computer.

It just bothered me. I've not heard someone on the other line that much before. And, my call backs are just getting worse.

Urgh.

Would it bother you?

Normally, I don't hear all that noise when a coach is listening. It's weird.
Yea, it would bother me. It’s like someone is watching me how I do my work, makes me conscious.

@mindstruggle very uncomfortable when it's all day, too.
Yourguyinthecity · 51-55, M
I have had that happen too.
perceptivei · 36-40, F
@Yourguyinthecity What does that make you think or feel?
Yourguyinthecity · 51-55, M
@perceptivei Either the supervisory staff don’t trust me or they have way too much time on their hands.
perceptivei · 36-40, F
@Yourguyinthecity Yeah. I think thr one who was initially listening (don't know who else wasn't listening after her) was upset that I wasn't being stern enough with the customer about paying her bill.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
That would bug the hell out of me to
perceptivei · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth it was very annoying
WrngWlf · 46-50, F
Yep it would bother me
Fertilization · 36-40, F
I guess it’s important for call centre monitoring..

@Fertilization Correct but it was an unusual amount yesterday.
Back in 2001, shortly before I turned 31, I worked at an MCI long distance for business customer service call center, near the end of my six weeks of training we were on live calls. I got one guy from New Jersey that sounded obviously connected to "Family", he wanted to know why his issue wasn't resolved despite his so called business not being in our database as a customer for MCI. Despite my trying to get him to understand this, he eventually threatened to kill me and named me by name, that he would find me. I tried getting a shadowing supervisor to take over while I started shaking uncontrolably, she refused. I then hung up the connection, took off my headseat, and walked out of the call center. An hour later I get a call from my brother asking me why I walked out, it was a church friend of his that worked in another department in management tjat got me the job, and I told him. The next day I got a call from the friend asking me to come back, the training supervisor had been fired for refusing to take over the call to turn over to escalation. They reviewed the audio recording, as it was being monitored as I was still in training, then turned it over to the FBI as it was a threat over interstate phone lines, who then arrested the guy who was a low level hang around of one of the Five Families that control the New York/New Jersey area, he was convicted and sentened to ten years. I never went back.

@NativePortlander1970 We have people call in and make threats. But, I've never heard of one threat going to the police or someone getting arrested --- even bomb threats. 🤔
@perceptivei Then they are violating FCC regulations, I forget exactly which ones, but that is what I was told in 2001, that ALL threats of any kind are to be reported to the authorities.
