you ever not get a job due to how you look or

told at your job you need to change something about your appearance be it piercings or whatever?

was offered a 3rd job a bit ago but when went in, they asked if i would shave the beard and when said no, they said It would not work out.
Prob a blessing due to already getting burnt out from 2 jobs and having to leave recently previous job due to being burnt out..

anyway I am bored, this place is kinda dead so I am making conversation that does not revolve around politics and all that tiresome bullshit

Ya, I was constantly told to “smile smile smile smile, you look too sad, why you look so sad”....and “not enough make up” at another place (serving drinks to very wealthy men) lol . I never got those jobs at bars and restaurants and then got a hostess job due to my looks at an Irish restaurant in Manhattan (they preferred white people for their Irish clientele)And even then the owner told me to smile every time he passed by. I hated it and it was embarrassing

@InHeaven uggh that sounds so incredibly annoying. I hate getting told to smile just once at the rarest of times.
Much respect to you for having to deal with that

what a bunch of little shitheads, discriminating over some harmless appearance choice. :\ their loss!
Torsten · 36-40, M
@BlueVeins it happens all the time to so many. Some times can be for safety reasons though like piercings for example.
I had one job where women were told they were not aloud to tie up their hair and if they did they got in trouble over it.
Some places are extremely messed up over such stupid things

I dressed correctly for a job interview when I was 20 for a receptionist position at my workplace and didn't get the position. The next time a receptionist job came up I wore a skirtsuit with a very short skirt that just showed beneath the fitted jacket and teamed it with 6 inch pencil thin stiletto heeled white sandals.Got the position.
One time at work HR told me a complaint had been filed against me for wearing mini skirts in the office. It is not against dress code.I had a really good idea who had filed the complaint so the next day I wore short shorts then told her I was so lucky to have such long sharply legs. She said her husband agreed with me.Turned out her husband had been looking at my legs when he had been dropping her off at work and she got very jealous.

@Torsten I noticed that a lot of the women being successful were tall with long legs that they showed off.The interviews were being conducted by two men and they were clearly influenced by attractiveness as well as job ability.I have 46 inch legs, very shapely and really well muscled from gym workouts so I used them.I knew showing off my legs, feet and boobies gave me a great chance at being successful.Collectively we got called the 6ft club because we were all really tall.
Nothing came of the complaint.I had made my point to her and carried on wearing mini skirts or shorts like I had been doing already.

@tallpowerhouseblonde hey use what you got i think if you can capitalize from it.
That is good nothing came from the complaint though
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@Torsten There was never anything going to come from the complaint. We can dress as we wish provided it is not sports clothing.
What's wrong with being professional and clean shaven? Why go for a big hippy beard that only pot smokers find desirable
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Stargazer89 maybe what's actually important is the fact that torsten gets to control his own appearance and body instead of letting his stupid boss decree it for him. Just a thought.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@bleach maybe, maybe not.. I dont know haha
Torsten · 36-40, M
@BlueVeins wasnt my boss. Was a potential boss but yes I dont think anyone should have to change their appearance for most jobs but thats just me. My other 2 jobs are cool though
JestAJester · 31-35, M
Ive turned down jobs for that reason too. Baby face, not shaving my beard, only trim.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@JestAJester such a stupid thing employers care about really
Torsten · 36-40, M
@MrBrownstone what was the reason if you dont mind me asking?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Torsten Not tall enough for runway model
Torsten · 36-40, M
@MrBrownstone haha damn better luck next time
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
probably more complaints about my deep southern drawl accent... 🤔
jeancolby · 31-35, F
The dress code for my work is simple, bikini thong.
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
