The Allure of Horror

Can anyone explain why some of us are drawn to horror and creepy things? Like I love the SCP universe and just saw the video on 2316. I showed it to a friend and I think they got freaked out lmao. What makes us like this?

For me, it's kinda like exposure therapy. Seeing things that are morbid and frightening exposes me to uncomfortable emotions in a controlled manner.
